Freed after 85 days in a federal detention center, Miller arrived at about 8:30 a.m. at the federal courthouse to testify for Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald's investigation about her conversations in July 2003 with Vice President
Dick Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

Miller said in a statement that her source — identified by the Times as Libby — had released her from her promise of confidentially.

She went to the grand jury area accompanied by her attorney Robert Bennett and others, including colleagues from the Times.
<snip>

If she lies, she should be sent to Saudi Arabia for further questioning.

7. Except for the tagline, the story is real. Here's more:
"Until a few months ago, the White House maintained for nearly two years that Libby and presidential aide Karl Rove were not involved in leaking the identity of Valerie Plame, whose husband had publicly suggested that the Bush administration twisted intelligence in the runup to the war in Iraq.

The timing of the criticism by former Ambassador Joseph Wilson was devastating for the White House, which was already on the defensive because no weapons of mass destruction had been found in Iraq. The president's claims of such weapons were the main justification for going to war.

Libby met with Miller just two days after Wilson blasted the Bush administration in a Times op-ed piece.Time magazine reporter Matthew Cooper has testified recently that Rove and Libby had spoken to him about Wilson's wife that same week in July 2003 when Miller spoke to Libby.

In October 2003, with the criminal investigation gaining speed, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said of Rove and Libby: "Those individuals assured me they were not involved in this" leaking of Plame's identity.

Fitzgerald announced this morning that he's indicting the President and Vice President on conspiracy charges. Federal marshals detained both this morning."

As I said, except the tagline, it's all for real.

5.  Wasn't Judith previously released by Libby?
What is different now? Was this a new and more special type of release? I think Judith was getting tired of sitting in jail.

6. she was not satisfied with that blanket WH release (neither was Cooper)
She wanted the release to be specific to her case (as did Cooper who got his release from Time (or was it newsweek?) much ealier-and thus testified earlier).

15. My take on it is like what happened with Cooper.
Rove's attorney said that anyone was free to talk about conversations that Rove had with reporters, blah blah blah. They never expected Cooper to actually take that at face value and got caught off guard when Cooper testified.

Miller, being one of the "family", understood that the blanket release was really just puffery and wanted someone to REALLY release her from her vow of silence. Now she has it, but what's the bottom line here? There has to be something more to the picture.

8. All LIES. The LYING Administration.
The administration lied about yellow cake going from Niger to Iraq.
The administration lied about Libby and Rove not being involved.

How about a chronicle book - The White House of Lies - a list of all the lies of this administration?

When you read or say Libby - think or say Cheney. Does anyone think that Libby did or said anything with Miller or anyone else without orders from Cheney. Then, think team.

This is a group plot. Who wanted the war in Iraq? Libby or Cheney?

Be smart people. Cheney is the one who pulls Bush's strings. Rove takes orders from Cheney and props Bush up, as does Libby and Bolton or anyone else who is involved.

Rove, Libby, Bolton are go-fers for Cheney.

Cheney is your man - your source.

P.S. There is one thing that right wing HUD is not lying about - there are no poor black residents gong back in to New Orleans.

This was a cleansing in two well defined stinking ways - the stink of death that didn't have to be and the stink of wealthy politics.

Freed N.Y. Times reporter appears in court
Judith Miller’s released from jail after deal with special prosecutor
Updated: 9:12 a.m. ET Sept. 30, 2005
WASHINGTON - New York Times reporter Judith Miller appeared for testimony before a federal grand jury Friday, throwing a spotlight once again on the White House role in the leak of a covert CIA officer’s identity.

Freed after 85 days in a federal detention center, Miller arrived at about 8:30 a.m. at the federal courthouse to testify for Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation about her conversations in July 2003 with Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby.

Miller said in a statement that her source — identified by the Times as Libby — had released her from her promise of confidentially.

18. dumb question....
When are we going to find out what she said?

We heard right away that Rove was Cooper's source, but I don't remember whether that was a leak or whether it was ever confirmed by anybody involved with his testimony. Also, are we assuming that Miller's source was Scooter?--Cheney?--or just Rove again....?

Inquiring minds want to know. I wish I knew more about the grand jury process.
