The FBI has interviewed several dozen Bush administration officials, including a top presidential adviser and the White House press secretary, in its investigation of a leak involving the identity of a CIA undercover officer, but no grand jury subpoenas have yet been issued, government sources said yesterday.
Officials familiar with the expanding probe also said that a 12-agent team assembled to conduct the investigation has begun poring over boxes of telephone logs, diaries and other documents that were turned over to the Justice Department.
Although the interviews -- now numbering more than three dozen -- have included the CIA and the departments of Defense and State, the focus of the investigation has centered on the White House, the sources said. Those who have submitted to voluntary interviews include Karl Rove, President Bush's senior adviser, and Scott McClellan, the chief White House spokesman.
