4. You are correct, I merely thought it was important to include

that it was a busy intersection and also to explain what was meant by the term "scooter" in the original post. I realize the limitations imposed by not wanting to violate the copyright rules we have here, but I also understand that many only read the post and not the article.

There is still much here we do not know. We know it was evening but not if it was dark. We know she was in the crosswalk but not the color of the light. We don't know if either of the people involved were impaired. We don't know if the driver of the car was speeding.

6. Laws very from state to state.

In some states (like mine) anything motorized and wheeled must follow the same traffic laws as a car, that goes for handicap scooters, to the stand up electric zip scooters. I wasn't there but maybe she was going against her light? I don't know but I have seen lots of people going into the cross walk against the light here at the hospital with scooters.
When these scooters are sold, he laws of that state should be made plain to the buyers.:o

have some place (am merely an individual) do a study of returning soldiers and the death and accident rate -

there have been a lot of news stories that say (paraphrasing here) "returned from Iraq only to die in ___________ (fill in blank with accident, accidental shooting, single car wreck)

Are our soldiers being brought back in an emotional state that does not allow them to easily fit back into mainstream society?

just thought I might clarify - I try not to put my thoughts into an original post, allowing the readers to form their own conclusions - so how can anyone really know the reason for posting any piece?

But you sounded as though I was picking on the soldier - no, just noting another "accident" and yes, there are these types of accidents every day in some place or other, so that in and of itself was not noteworthy -

but I wonder what the percentage of returning soldier's "accidents" are compared to the regular population - probably no way of really knowing -

13. Statisitcally speaking

Besides not really being able to compare soldiers to the general population, being more accident prone than the average in of itself means little. By definition, 50% of sub groups will be above the general population accident rate and 50% will be below. So the questions that one would have to ask is 1) are soldiers above or below the average 2) how to they compare will the norm for soliders (ie; those not just back from conflict) 3) are the difference satistically significant 4) and from a society point of view is it a problem-- in other words are we concerned about all sub groups above the accident average or just soliders back from Iraq?

The general conclusion was that soldiers just back from Iraq are being dumped into the general community without any sort of transition, and that often they are not prepared to function in it.

They are not merely stressed out -- they are also accustomed to operating without much concern for civilians. And they don't get over that just by being told, "Okay, you're home now." They need a kind of help which they're not getting, and we're all going to suffer for it.

10. I hate when i'm on a bike

and crossing an intersection, after I've received the WALK signal, and some idiot making a right turn decides RED does not mean stop when making a right turn.

I've almost been hit more than a few times.

As I remember, bicycles have access to the roadways. Even if you claim you must use the sidewalks, the law clearly states that you should walk the bike across the street. You can't have it both ways. That is why the signal says "WALK".
