NJ senators pleased Bush nominates woman to Supreme Court

WASHINGTON -- New Jersey's two Democratic U.S. senators said Monday they were pleased President Bush has nominated a woman to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg said they have worked with nominee Harriet Miers, currently the White House counsel, on New Jersey judicial nominations.

"We found her to be courteous and professional," Lautenberg said. "Now Ms. Miers must be forthright and honest in her hearings, and demonstrate to the Senate and the American people that she is an appropriate choice for this lifetime appointment."

Corzine said the White House must provide access to all "documents related to her tenure in public life."

8. Yeah I do.
This is how politics works: The party in power tries to consolidate power, and the party (or parties, were we somewhere other than the U.S.) not in power tries to stop them. But it seems that half of the Democrat party wants to rubber stamp anything the GOP does and says. They have for 5 years, why should the Democrats stop now?

Its not a matter of me knowing how politics work, its a matter of what is actually happening. And the Democrats rolling over on Roberts, and soon to be Miers, it what is actually happening.

11. So I take it that I can't criticize my own party?
What are you suggesting, that I shut up and toe the line? Are we Republicans now?

Its attitudes such as yours that keep pushing people from the party and maintains the old guard DLC that keeps this party in submission. Dogs who rubber stamp in government (the NJ senators not included in this case) should be bashed and then driven from office. Maybe you think rubber stamping junk judges is they way politics should work.

12. Tee-hee-hee....
(the NJ senators not included in this case)
Says the guy who jumped into a thread bashing New Jersey Democratic Senators to bash New Jersey Democratic Senators....

"Its attitudes such as yours that keep pushing people from the party"
Yeah, that's why I started attacking Democrats mindlessly...oh wait, that was YOU.

13. What?
...a thread bashing New Jersey Democratic Senators to bash New Jersey Democratic Senators... What are you talking about?

How is this thread bashing NJ senators specifically? I specifically singled out NJ senators. And if you took my original post to bash NJ senators, specifically, then you're inserting words into my post.

I bashed a current Democratic party who has a track record of rolling over to GOP wants. I excepted the NJ senators in my reply because they voted against Roberts. However, the bulk of Senate Democrats voted for Roberts.

I still ask you: when your party does something stupid, should they not be bashed?

16. What is the title of this thread again?
You leaped into a thread singling out New Jersey's Democratic Senators for bashing, to mindlessly bash New Jersey's Democratic Senators, and now purport to be unable to figure out "How is this thread bashing NJ senators specifically?"

"I still ask you: when your party does something stupid, should they not be bashed?"
Excuse the fuck out of me if I don't accept YOU as an authority on what is "stupid." Or honest.

Or bashing, for that matter.

17. whatever...
the thread is not singling out NJ senators for bashing. Never did, where you got that thought, I have no idea.

But I'm not going to further a flame war for your own jollies. Have a nice day.

"where you got that thought, I have no idea."
So in other words, when you put up post #1 you were too inarticulate to make your thoughts clear?

Wow.

You could hardly do better than having him rush through a nomination like this...the stink of "flop sweat" is all over it.

10. I did read the article. I'm talking about the party in general.
They said that we need to see all the documents on Miers, but we won't. We didn't see all the documents on Roberts and the Democrats sill went and voted on him. Roberts sat in the hearings and barely answered any questions, and the Democrats still voted for him. The majority of Senate Democrats voted for Roberts.

The big guns can say all the right things, can vote on all the right things, but while the guts of the party is rolling over the the GOP, all the big guns do and say is just lip service.

That's what I'm talking about when I say, sarcastically, 'roll democrats roll!'

19. Nothing like an informed discussion...wish there was one.
"The majority of Senate Democrats voted for Roberts."
Ahem...

"Half the Senate's Democrats and one independent joined all 55 Senate Republicans in approving the president's nominee for chief justice. "

Wonder if more Democrats might have opposed Roberts if they'd heard more support.

2. Oh, Lautenburg is very, very smooth!!
LOL! I hope everyone caught that. "I really like the fact that Bush nominated a woman, and Mier sure is a nice one. Now, let's just hope that she's honest and forthright to the Senate and the American people, and that she doesn't have anything in her background, or that she isn't some wacko, so we can approve her."

Basically, say she's a nice nomination, then explain how they are going to examine her like a virus.

4. Their Standards Are Too Lax
This woman has done nothing judicial. She is a Bushbot. Is he hoping to appoint enough beholden lackeys to get a "get out of jail free" card?

You know how hard it must be to find a woman educated enough to be slightly qualified yet stupid enough to be a right winger? :-)

I'm an optimist, and my hope is that they end up Borking her. Just keep shutting the process down until we get someone we can wholeheartedly support.
