Protesters to Bush: How dare you?

Buses carrying hundreds of protesters were expected to leave Sydney for Canberra this morning, to coincide with the visit by the United States President, George Bush.

Rallies and marches in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne yesterday evening kicked off a series of actions to oppose the presidential visit and that of the Chinese leader, Hu Jintao.

In Sydney yesterday, the crowd, estimated by protest organisers to be 5000 people and by police at between 3000 and 4000, filled Town Hall square during peak hour.

Senator Bob Brown of the Greens was greeted with wild cheers and applause before he called on Mr Bush to release two Australians held in the US military jail in Cuba.

"How dare you lock up Australian citizens in Guantanamo Bay?" Senator Brown said.

Four protesters were arrested today as thousands descended on the nation's capital in a show of anger against US President George W Bush.

A mass police presence and unprecedented security was in place, but protesters breached plastic webbed fencing outside the US embassy before being pushed back.

One protester was hit by a police motorcycle after stumbling into its path while running towards the heavily guarded embassy. He was not seriously injured.

8. Scenes I would like to see

Wouldn't it be great if President Clinton followed chimpy on his world-wind tours, landing in each country the day after chimpy did.

Have Bill address the same audiences the day after chimpy is run out of town. I'm sure Bill would be heaped with the usual praise he gets the day after that warmongering chickenhawk coward GW pisses off whatever country he visits.

most letter writers to newspapers are contrasting Bush's smug 'I love free speech'.. with the Greens senators almost being evicted from Parlaiment.

Most political commentators are saying that Australia gained far more from the President of China's visit than Bush.

Can you believe the audacity of the creep Howard..he held a BBQ for Bush and invited only his own sport's heros, billionaire backers and shock jocks. Let off the guest list, the Leader Of The Opposition Simon Crean from the Labor Party which receives the greatest number of votes of any single political party.

meanwhile we all pick up the tab for Bush's visit.

Howard and Bush are in a complete diplomatic protocol free zone.
