SHANNON HILLS — While police say evidence indicates a 19-year-old Shannon Hills man was poisoned, they don’t have enough evidence to prove a claim that he died from smoking rattlesnake venom-laced marijuana.

Steven Gamblin died Oct. 15 after being removed from lifesupport equipment at St. Vincent Doctors Hospital at Little Rock. He was brought to the facility Sept. 18 after he stopped breathing in his sleep. "Officially, we are investigating this as a possible homicide," Shannon Hills Police Chief John Brown said. While unsure of the cause, "We have reason to believe that a foreign substance was induced into this young man that caused his death."

Brown said a subsequent screening for pharmaceutical drugs found traces of clonazepam, a narcotic used for panic disorder and as an anti-convulsive. But, he said, "It wasn’t even close to being at a level to cause his death."

Hmmmm....having a hard time believing the kid smoked rattlesnake venom. "Sources" say...yeah, sure, I believe "sources".

1. Who would have access to a sufficient dosage of rattlesnake venom?

2. If condition #1 is met, who would put in in marijuana?

3. Who are the sources? Are they credible?

The DEA has been looking for decades for someone to die of marijuana so they can use it in the War On Some Drugs.

Something else this kid ingested killed him, I'd wager.

7. It could happen by homocide

1. The case was in Arkansas. There are rattlesnakes in Arkansas. Kill one and drain its venom glands. If more is needed, kill two or three. I imagine that inhaling it would be more damaging to the lungs than exposure the normal way and more likely to cause death.
2. Someone who wanted him dead or at least very uncomfortable. This might have been the dealer who had access to the bag. Perhaps someone dipped a joint in it and gave it to him.
3. It's probably heresay, but that has helped catch criminals before.
Of course, maybe the venom was added without ill intent. Some people have some silly beliefs about getting a better high. If that's the case, I hope everyone learned that this was a bad idea.
I don't know if this will be blamed on marijuana. People are poisioned by food and drink often. That does not mean food and drink are demonized.
