Anti-War Protesters Gather in D.C., S.F.
WASHINGTON - Protesters began converging on the nation's capital Friday for what they hope will be the largest anti-war demonstration since the fall of Baghdad

Organizers predicted tens of thousands of people would turn out Saturday in Washington for a march and speeches calling for the removal of U.S. forces from Iraq (news - web sites). Thousands of demonstrators also were expected to flock to San Francisco at the same time for the largest protests there since April, when more than 10,000 people filled the streets.

"The U.S. government has no right to try and recolonize Iraq," said Peta Lindsay, national youth and student coordinator for International ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), which organized the protests with another group, United for Peace and Justice

1. I may head over there
Edited on Fri Oct-24-03 11:52 PM by kwolf68

I went to that DC Chapter of Free Republic...Very much like Nuremberg.

They have really wrapped themselves up in the troops and "freedom." They honestly believe that people who don't want war are communists. They "support" the troops in their way and others "support" troops in our way and that distinction is never made.

To those drones, people who don't agree w/ them are against freedom, the troops and America.

I'd like to know how freedom is being protected for us in Iraq? These people use nothing but nationalism, jingoism and simple-minded "commie" cliches to couch the debate. They are truly pathetic and ignorant.

These people are still fightin the cold war.

3. I know it

And they honestly believe they know what we think. We don't care about peace...it's all a shell game for our communist designs.

I mean...the very idea of "peace" is such an absurd notion isnt' it? That there HAS to be another agenda. The fact we just want the world to kill killing itself off is a large part of most of our beliefs never dawns on them.

BTW---I asked this on the other thread...WHO IS going to the DC protest tomorrow? I have the major itch to go over there. \

4. There's no freedom in Iraq

There hasn't been a single election held in Iraq long after Chimpy declared the ware was over. The appointed ruler of Iraq isn't even Iraqi, but an American.

I hope the protestors deliver the message loud and clear. Only thing chimpy has done for the Iraqis is relieve them of their oil and $4 billion. America needs a wake-up call.

20. It's the same war. Different victim. This is the same scam as the war on
communism and the war on drugs, Simply a vehicle for selling armaments and for stealing other people's resources and for strategic positioning for their ultimate dream of world supremacy. ALL of these adventures are purely manufactured.

8. A few short months later
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 09:37 AM by Jack Rabbit
When we marched ahead of the war last winter, we said that the war was unjustified, that inspections were working and that the reason they weren't finding and biochemical weapons is that Saddam had few if any, that the invasion was really about oil and making Bush's cronies more rich than they already are, that it would cost more than the junta was saying, that the Iraqis would view us as colonialists and resist occupation, that Bush was lying about Saddam's association with al-Qaida and 9/11 and that Bush and his aides had already decided to go to war regardless of the facts. At that time, no one wanted to believe us.

Today, about six months after Bush declared major combat operations at an end, we march again. The war was not justified, no trace of any biochemical arsenal has been found, the oil fields and oil ministry were secured during the invasion and the hospitals were allowed to be looted, Bush's cronies were awarded lucrative no-bid contracts, the cost of the war is billions a day, American troops are being attacked dozens of times every day, there still isn't any convincing proof to connect Saddam with al-Qaida, Bush has finally admitted that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11 and there is plently of convincing proof that Bush and his aides cooked intelligence in order to make a false case for the war. At this time, no one can any longer believe Bush.

What a big difference in such a short time.

13. I'm listening to C-Span online right now
They are covering the march at www.c-span.org

They just said it should be on around 3 hours. Go to www.c-span.org and choose "c-span" then click on the right side of the page, realplayer or windowsmedia and you'll get it.

10. Don't we know what the news reports will say?
After saying tens of thousands were expected, they will say the crowds were smaller than expected.Slugs.
Is C-Span broadcasting this? Or do they only broadcast the ANSWER(free mumia, Palestine) ones? I thought this one in DC was a more open coalition.

18. Busloads converge on Washington for Iraq protest
Busloads converge on Washington for Iraq protest

By Niala Boodhoo

WASHINGTON, Oct. 25 — Demonstrators from more than 145 U.S. cities poured into Washington on Saturday for the first major peace protest since President George W. Bush declared an end to major combat in the war on Iraq.

Small groups of protesters carrying signs demanding an end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq gathered outside the U.S. Capitol building and across downtown Washington, heading toward the National Mall for a late-morning rally followed by a march to surround the White House. (snip)
