Del. judge orders documents in Katz case unsealed Monday (Philadelphia)

A lengthy series of motions, depositions and documents in an embezzlement case that Republican mayoral candidate Sam Katz wanted to keep under wraps will be disclosed on Monday, a Delaware judge ruled yesterday.

Katz also was chastised by the judge, Leo E. Strine Jr., for telling Philadelphia news media that he could not talk about the sealed records in the business dispute because of an order by the judge.

"That's not so," Strine said.

Strine said the confidentiality order he had overturned had been agreed to by Katz and his former partners and had not been imposed by the court.

Katz was not in the courtroom, but his lawyer, Gregory V. Varallo, conceded Katz made the statements to the media and apologized to the judge.

6. I really thought Katz was going to win

But over the last few weeks it seems like he has lost the edge he had. I predict a narrow Street victory.
