Bush Campaign Improperly Solicits Funds from Exec. Branch Employee
Frosty Response to Solicitation

Texas Democratic Rep. Martin Frost's wife, Kathy George Frost, got an unusual solicitation from President Bush this week: a fundraising request, mailed to her office at the Army and Air Force Exchange Service in Dallas.

"It will be months before the Democrats settle on a candidate, but the election could be close," the letter states. "I need the help of friends now."

While it is not unusual for Democrats to receive fundraising appeals from the GOP, Tom Eisenhauer, a spokesman for the congressman, questioned how the president could solicit an executive branch employee at her work site. "It's surprising that President Bush's campaign would violate federal law by soliciting a U.S. Army general on active duty at her office," he said..

Scott Stanzel, spokesman for the Bush campaign, said it will not happen again. "We have a rigorous process in place to prevent mail from being sent to government facilities. We take it very seriously. We will take immediate action to make sure the congressman's wife doesn't receive mailings in the future."

1. Very interesting last sentence...
"We will take immediate action to make sure the congressman's wife doesn't receive mailings in the future."

Sounds to me that they will only stop the illegal requests to the congressman's wife and continue sending them to everyone else.

2. I get solicitations all the time
I don't, or should I say, have not got them at work yet. I have been getting them for years. I also get things to support the Reagan ranch, to preserve it for future generations. I was getting things to suppurt the guy that ran against Mrs. Clinton for the senate. I guess this is how they try to pick up the independants and undecided.

5. Make sure to send the solicitation request back, no money of course,
with your comments, in the postage paid envelope.

3. Nice little job ya got there; wouldn't want to see it burn to the ground,
would ya?

It's not just illegal, it's a shakedown. This is also intended to remind gummint employees that they're vulnerable and being watched. "Ya know there might be some layoffs comin' soon; we'd hate to hafta, you know..."

4. Well of course Congressman Frost 's wife shouldn't have been on the list
But other repuke government employees well, they're fair game of course.

And as disgusting as this incident is (soliciting from government employees at their place of work), how about the Texas Business Assocation comment that they will continue raising secret funds from corporations in Texas to run negative ads like they did last year. This despite the fact that they are under investigation for the practice that is clearly illegal under Texas law. Article link below.

Earle weighs influence vs. investigation
http://www.statesman.com/news/content/shared/texas/legislature/1003/1025earle.html
His frustration comes from just being told that Texas Association of Business President Bill Hammond intends to solicit secret corporate donations to pay for ads in next year's elections just as he did last year — despite Earle's ongoing grand jury investigation. Critics say widespread use of the group's methods would cripple public disclosure of the money influencing elections.

Elections, they don't belong to the people anymore, they belong to the corporations and BFEE.

7. Wouldn't you think the AAs in the offices would probably
be more in line with the Dem/Indep line of thinking, unless they're verry well paid?

Inform people that strange mailings like those are illegal.

11. You're absolutely right!
This would be all over the news had it been the Clinton Administration.

I don't want to cry sour grapes and all but sometimes it's just so blatant!
