Dean picks up support in Kerry territory
NEW BEDFORD -- Everyone knows former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean has unexpectedly shot to the lead over Massachusetts Sen. John F. Kerry in the battle to win the New Hampshire primary.
But now Gov. Dean is taking on the Massachusetts senator in his home state.
The former five-term governor has successfully lured away former New Bedford Mayor John K. Bullard from the Kerry side.
Mr. Bullard, who gave a $1,000 contribution to Sen. Kerry last year, said he has become convinced that Gov. Dean would make the strongest candidate against President Bush in the final election.
"In an age of people being handled, Howard Dean is his own guy," he said. "His positions are what he thinks. He says what he means and he does what he says, and people are comfortable with that."

1. Great News!
Thanks for passing the link along. I had no idea Dean has so many Massachusetts endorsements.

2. Interesting quote
Although he believes Sen. Kerry would make a good president, Mr. Bullard said he thinks the senator has a communication problem.

"I agree with him on most of the issues, but he's so careful and so nuanced in what he says that his message has a hard time getting through," he said.

3. Reagan proved people will vote for a fool with overly simplistic answers.
But I don't think that's the best we can do.

5. Could these endorsements be any less impressive...
a has been mayor who went to prep school with Dean, a former ceremonial mayor and a couple of unknown state reps.

6. The most important endorsements are those...
...of the individual voters and supporters. But of course, I could be a snarky shit and say, "Yes, of course there are less important endorsements, like yours..."

7. Ah, but are they superdelegates?
Edited on Sat Oct-25-03 04:31 PM by Eloriel
That matters.

Edit: And another thing. Dean is not only a Washington OUTsider, he's not only running an outsider campaign, he's running SUCH an independent (from the establishment) campaign that it may be tough poitically or for selfish reasons for some establishment Dems to endorse him. I don't know for sure -- just speculating.
