Iraqis Regret Wolfowitz Survived
There is a story within a story here with its own headline and everything, so I will post the second one. If its not OK please lock or delete mods. Thank you. Don

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20031026/wl_nm/iraq_attack_dc&cid=574&ncid=1480

Brig. Gen. Marty Dempsey, commander of the 1st Armored Division, later told Wolfowitz: "I don't think this was targeted at you. I don't want you to take this personally."

"I don't," Wolfowitz replied.

Dempsey said the military had expected the guerrillas to attack in Baghdad as a sort of retaliation for the U.S.-led administration's progress in reopening a major bridge in the capital on Saturday.

"They clearly are trying to tie these things (attacks) to something we have done positive. This enemy won't wave a white flag," the general said.

Angry at U.S. occupation, Iraqis expressed regret at what they saw as an assassination attempt had failed.

"I wish Wolfowitz had been killed. I wish all Americans here would be killed," said Ali Hussein, a grocer in central Baghdad. "The Americans are not human beings, they are monsters. They lied to the Iraqi people."

13. Yes, neonazicon Wolfowitz survived. Tens of thousands of innocent
Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 08:15 AM by Flying_Pig
Iraqis didn't, and he was one of the primary engineers of their deaths. This little man has blood all over his hands.

Last night NBC News,as part of their new "Good News" offensive, showed an Iraqi woman attempting to give Wolfowitz a little hug, as he walked through the streets of Baghdad. Was she ignorant of the fact this evil little man was partly responsible for the invasion of her country, and the deaths of so many of her fellow citizens? Probably not. Then again, may be she was. Perhaps she was given desperatley needed food or water, and was simply showing thanks for the "largess" of her oppressors? Even a kicked dog will lick the hand of those who feed it. Whatever, it was a disgusting sight.

If there were justice, Wolfowitz, Perle, and all the rest of the PNAC'ers, would stand trial in the World Court for war crimes, as would their lead stooge, "*". These people are truly some of the most evil humans to walk the earth since the days of Hitler.

that in their last election, 99% of the people voted for Saddam. I think the Iraqis are just very good at pretending they like you and are thankful while in the meantime they are twisting the knife they just stuck in your back. It's all about survival.

though the goddamn pity of it is that 80% of the American people beleive all that crap that is shown in the papers and on the news but then again if they were shown the truth they still wouldn't beleive it because they have been brainwashed for too long and are like a bunch of sheep.

42. You're right they are brainwashed
The puppet Bush regime is using new, aggressive forms of brainwashing to change the very way Americans think and feel.

<snip>

We are living under the beginning stages of a military dictatorship in precisely the same way that 1930s Germans suffered under the Nazi regime.

As in the case of Nazi Germany, state-sponsored propaganda (brainwashing) is a vital part of the Bush regime's strategy.

<snip

In an earlier article, I reviewed the varied aspects of personality profiling and simulation. While serving as Head of the Artificial Intelligence Department at the U.S. Army War College, 1993-1995, I conducted studies on profiling, psychological programming, and brainwashing. I explored and developed personality simulation systems, an advanced technology used in military war games, FBI profiling, political campaigning, and advertising. Part of my discovery was that:

unenlightened human minds are combinations of infantile beliefs and emotional patterns

these patterns can be simulated in profiling systems

these profiling systems can be used to program and control people

Personality simulation systems are being used to create political campaigns that apply voter profiles to control their voting behavior. TV commercials and programs use personality simulation to profile viewers to control their purchasing and viewing behaviors. And sophisticated propaganda and brainwashing techniques are being used by the Bush junta to keep American citizens under control.

Above quotes from Brainwashing America by Dr. Norman Livergood.

within a mile of Wolfowitz if "the hug" wasn't pre-arranged with security? Puhhhleeeze!

I do wish that Bush, Rummy and their whole band of thieves would demonstrate their purported hero status among the Iraqis by openly walking down the streets of Baghdad (or anywhere in the entire Middle East) without security out the waahzoo. They wouldn't get two feet.

18. The 1st AD asked Gen. Dempsey in August, “Sir, who is attacking us?”
Edited on Sun Oct-26-03 09:13 AM by lebkuchen
Dempsey responded:

Right now, it’s former Saddam loyalists and criminals who are angry at U.S. troops’ attempts to interfere with their lawlessness. But all that’s about to change, he said.

The new enemy is terrorists, he warned. They all know the Americans are in Iraq, and the “they all want to try and get a piece of you.”

“Regional extremists are even now flocking to Baghdad because , it’s the superbowl,” Dempsey said. “They’re coming here now and starting to get organized.”

Dempsey is warning his troops to get ready for an enemy “that wants to make a big, big splash, like dropping the Palestine,” a major hotel where many Westerners live.

http://estripes.com/article.asp?section=104&article=16537&archive=true

Comment: The general tells Wolfowitz not to take it personally desite the fact he was predicting "a big splash" to his own 1st AD troops two months ago. Wolfowitz was a big splash. Of course it's personal. Dempsey even got the target right: a hotel.

It's tragic to witness how top ranking generals are bending over backwards to prop up WH liars and connivers at the expense of their own troops' welfare.

21. Did he get to "People who want you guys GONE" in his list?
"Former Saddam Loyalists"...Feh!

"Terra-ists"...Yeh, if you say so...Bet they think the same of you.

"Fighters against the Murkan Occupation"...Has a ring of truth to it, but does not support our mission of "Talk up the Success/Operation Feel the Love"

I can't buy this tripe. Maybe because I put myself in the sandals of your average Bagdhaddi. Think of it, You're being lead by a thug (yeah, he was a thug, but at least he was legally elected, unlike OUR thug)but you have lights, water, and a job. Solidiers only came to take OTHER people away.
Now, you have water SOME days, electricity is on almost enough to keep the fridge cool enough to keep your food(if you still OWN a fridge-you've been out of work since April), and there's foreign soldiers going up and down the streets and all they can do is point their rifles at you and scream at you in a language you don't understand.

Now, suppose this is NOT Bagdhad, but Fort Wayne, Indiana.

What you gonna do?

33. Oh really?
you say Saddam was legally elected huh? That's a good one....

BiggJawn, you lost me on the other stuff. I'm an active duty Marine who just had buddies come back from there, you're view of our patrolling tactics (i.e. yelling & screaming at innocent folks while "flagging" then w/a weapon) is amusing to me but unfortunately wrong. I have talked to eye witnesses (and I'll probably be there in about a year or so if we're still there) - so as much as people want Bush gone and our folks outta Baghdad the 'Nam analogy is not washing. The WMD argument is still more compelling.

The fellas I know say the opposite about Iraq. The news makes ratings off of trajedy, good news makes for poor ratings. Now, if Wolfie got whacked that would be huge ratings. However, the things I do know are that the locals are unhappy about the infrastructure problems, not happy about being off the public dole, would like us to leave within the next year, but don't want the Ba'athists to return either. Almost all hated Saddam and are glad he's gone. Most are optimistic about their future & are surprised we haven't been more heavy handed toward former Iraqi soldiers. Also, half of all the guerillas we handled were not native Iraqis. Makes you wonder how Saddam got 99% of a 'legal ellection'?

41. Anecdotal evidence
You can find that on all sides. A more accurate gage may be found in this Zogby poll, if we read all the way through it and don't rely on Cheney's misrepresentation:

snip>
And attitudes toward the US were not positive. When asked whether over the next five years, they felt that the “US would help or hurt Iraq,” 50 percent said that the US would hurt Iraq, while only 35.5 percent felt the US would help the country.
snip>
For the administration to continue to tell itself and the American people that “all is well,” only means that needed changes in policy will not be made.

Consider some of the other poll findings:

• Over 55 percent give a negative rating to “how the US military is dealing with Iraqi civilians.” Only 20 percent gave the US military a positive rating.

• By a margin of 57 percent to 38.5 percent, Iraqis indicate that they would support “Arab forces” providing security in their country.

• When asked how they would describe the attacks on the US military, 49 percent described them as “resistance operations.” Only 29 percent saw them as attacks by “Baath loyalists.”

• When asked whom they preferred to “provide security and restore order in their country,” only 6.5 percent said the US. Twenty-seven percent said the US and the UN together, 14.5 percent preferred only the UN. And the largest group, 45 percent, said they would prefer the “Iraqi military” to do the job alone.

http://www.arabnews.com/?page=7§ion=0&article=33984&d=22&m=10&y=2003

I'd be hard pressed to reach the conclusion that their problem with us is that they aren't "on the dole", as you suggest. I'd look first to the tens of thousands that have been killed and invasion by the West to be the source of their "unhappiness".

52. Saw a Reuters (maybe AP) photo in the paper yesterday
2 soldiers had a teen cornered in what looked like an Iraqi 7-11. They wewre "questioning" him about some "gunfire" they heard. I'll bet their command of the Iraqi tok-tok was maybe as good as the kid's English. Of course, what I noticed was that both soldiers had their fingers inside the trigger guards on their M-16's and THAT is "the universal language"..

As for your statement of being there "in about a year"...Count on it, Blackjack, count on it.And if your kids want to follow in Dad's footprints, count on THEM being there, too.

And as far as "good news" goes, WHAT "good news"? that Saddam is no longer in the school books? They have new school books? how many of our inner-city schools HERE could use new books? Saddam's face is off the "new" money? (I gotta question, is Schrub's picture on the new notes?) Yeah, we're supposed to "talk up the SUCCESS", but I can't see how having 2 or more US soldiers killed every day in a place we had no damn business going in the first place can be catagorized as "success"...

Now, before you get "tombstoned" as the dispuptor you are, answer me this:
How would YOU react if oh, say French troops were occupying YOUR town and hassling YOUR wife and YOUR kids....Hmmmm?

Go on, Blackjack, TELL us.

What? they didn't put THAT in that little "Talking Points" booklet the issue you guys?

Your post says it ALL. Oh except for those ass kissing Iraqis we see on TV either paid off or part of the Chalabi circus.

Saddam the bad is an evil fuck but he's NOTHIN compared to the evil fuckwittage BFEE.

In fact they fucking created him in the first place it was only when they deemed him "UNHELPFUL" they needed to blow his ass away.

Folks here in Oman are not cool with Saddam. In fact nobody in the region is but that does not excuse or justify the shit going down in Iraq.

The War ON Terror is fucking landing with a thud in the ME.

These folks KNOW who the fucking terra-ist are. And they are pissed off.

It is all a bunch of over hyped TRIPE.

53. Just like Manuel Noriega, eh?
Rumsferatu shakes stink-fingers with Saddam Hussein (he was our best bud! What'd he DO with all those WMD's we sold him, anyway? they aren't there)back in the 80's while we were supplying him, and after he became "an embarrassment" to the BFEE ("He tried to kill my Dad!") they took him out, just like they did Manuel when he started skimming off too much of the CIA's (run by Poppy, don't forget!) drug money and keeping it.

The CIA guided him to that position.

Otherwise, excellent points.

22. The Next Attack Will Be Against His Departing Airplane

So far the Iraqis have missed in all atempts. Maybe the previous efforts were target practice.

Better start wearing that Stainless Steel cup wolfie, because that will be all that's left when the big one hits!

said were aimed at a cargo plane but Iraqi's claimed it was Rummy's plane. Boy, I'd love to be a fly on the wall when Rummy, Wolfie et al get their orders to go to the land of everything's going according to the plan.

27. Relevant to this...
I just turned on Face the nation (10:30 am). Bremer on. The host (can't remember his name) just asked: "Do we need to reinvade the Sunni Triangle?"

Re-invade? RE-INVADE??? Jeebus H. Keerist. Can you say "Vietnam?"

Down. The. Rabbit. Hole.

P.S. Now Lieberman's on. Hit the off button. :puke:

30. I'm actually glad Wolf-wit
got a chance to try out a "smorgasbord sampler" of the events that he himself set into motion.

Wolfie made a trip to Iraq once before, I think in July. He came away, seemingly filled with a lot of regret. I remember him saying that they 'had made a lot of mistakes', especially in misjudging the Iraqis willingness to fight back. He readily agreed that the country was a mess. I read the 'testimonials', yawned, and went back to my coffee.

Flying Pig: those were pretty strong words you wrote, and I agree with EVERY one.

34. Here is the BBC version of Iraqi reaction to the Hotel Attack.....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3215137.stm

<snip>
Hala, 32, told the BBC she did not agree with attacks, alleging that "outside forces", not Iraqis, were conducting them.

But she says public opinion in Baghdad has turned against the Americans because of the way their troops behave.

"Just this morning I saw a US soldier beat an Iraqi man in the street. Some time ago in Kadhimiya I saw a man being shot three times just because he was standing and staring at the soldiers. We ran away so I don't know what happened to him.

"We want to live in peace," she says. "Why this harsh treatment? It is like Saddam."

Would it be okay then? Wolfowitz isn't Hitler, but he is responsible for the deaths of THOUSANDS of innocent people. Not to mention all of our soldiers who have been killed or maimed or wounded or emotionally scarred for life.

49. You are seeing a lot of anger
I think that many DUers (including myself) are furious with the administration. The Bush administration is not only evil but incompetent. Despite the fact that the Bushies may have been planning this war for a long time, they still managed not to plan for "postwar" Iraq. Unfortunately, too many innocent people (Iraqis and coalition troops) are paying the price for this idiocy. At this point, it is hard to feel sympathy for any member of the Bush administration considering what they not only wanted to invade Iraq but they also have indicated a desire to invade Iran and Syria. Not surprisingly, many of us would like to see members of the Bush administration suffer from the consequences of their actions.

While I do not want to see Wolfowitz dead, I do hope that he learns something of value from this attack. I hope that he realizes how lucky he was to survive this attack and reconsiders his role in this administration. The Bush administration desperately needs more voices of reason.

occur. I can't say I WISH his death but I can't say I hope he is safe either.

Maybe this will allow Mister Wolfowitz a glimpse into the REALITIES of war that he would not otherwise have.

My dislike of Bush and all he has clustered around him is beyond words, but, wishing any of them dead is only for jokes. That is why we have elections. Hopefully there will be enough people that get what this administration is all about. Well, maybe that's going to far. Who really knows what Bush & Co. is really about, it seems all so insane. By the way I'm an Okie too. Our State may be having second thoughts on Repubs.?? It seems possible.

Well, yeah, in yesterday's world. But if it's not out of line, I would suggest to you that Dubya was NOT elected, and that now, thanks to Diebold, Sequoia, and other such companies, we can no longer have any reasonable confidence in the fairness of our elections.
You should read up on the BBV stuff. In fact, every single American with even an iota of patriotism should.

62. Do please consider
that many of us marched and wrote and protested against this invasion.
We have spent a year and more warning that we were starting the second vietnam war. We are not happily vindicated, but righteously pissed.

I do not feel any joy at hearing that an American Colonel was killed in the missile attack, or 15 others wounded. But in the midst of the anger and horror, I think I am allowed a moment of joy in thinking that Wolfie might have beshat himself cowering in a corridor while the house was rocking.

Why do I take joy in his discomfiture? Because he was a causative agent of the criminal misery that both our troops and the Iraqi citizens endure every day. Yeah, Karma.

I will be surprized if he makes it out of Iraq in one peice, frankly.
I only hope that they are a bit more precise in their attack than before. Though as asymettrical warfare goes, this was surprizingly precise, as were the two follow up attacks. This makes getting Wolfie out with his ass intact a major military achievment, like a tiny Dunkirk.

I hope they get his worthless ass out of there, and ship it directly to Leavenworth where it so rightly belongs. But if not, I hope that no heroic American military personel are lost in the attack that gets him.

64. How many of you supported the death of "brown-skinned" Iraqis?
And how many are still supporting the criminal occupation of Iraq and the rape of Iraq's resources to line the pockets of corporate America?

No one cried for dead Nazis or their collaborators at the end of World War II, and no one will cry for dead PNACers.

Being that everything is great with the exception of a couple of isolated clashes….

It was a planned pyrotechnic welcoming event that kinda went over the top and we regret the accidental death of one of our bravest. But really folks…everything is just ducky over there….

65. Iraqis Regret Wolfowitz Survived: widely held belief by many
"I wish Wolfowitz had been killed. I wish all Americans here would be killed," said Ali Hussein, a grocer in central Baghdad. "The Americans are not human beings, they are monsters. They lied to the Iraqi people."

Think we should let them know the Bushscum misadministration lied to us too?
