The second-largest U.S. bank, which has 60 branches and 5,400 employees on Long Island, is moving about 1,000 customer service positions from its Chase Cardmember Services site in Hicksville, to Vancouver, Canada, as well as Tampa, Fla., Tempe, Ariz., Houston and San Antonio. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect in six months, the sources said.
The jobs affected include credit card customer service and collections. The cardmember service site occupies three buildings on Duffy Avenue in Hicksville, where a large Chase sign is highly visible from the Long Island Railroad's Hicksville station and Routes 106 and 107. The bank decided not to renew its lease in one of the buildings in an attempt to cut costs amid a sluggish economy, and to add a call center operating on a West Coast time zone, sources said.
