Armed Man Near President's Daughter Questioned, Released
There were some tense moments last week involving an armed man and the president's daughter, according to a published report.

Secret Service agents assigned to Barbara Bush, 21, at Yale, briefly detained a man with a gun, the New Haven Register reported Tuesday.

The newspaper, quoting law enforcment sources, said the man was questioned then released after authoritioes determined he had a permit to carry the weapon.

(snip)

The newspaper said the incident occurred in downtown New Haven late last week as Bush was walking down the street, with Secret Service escorts nearby.

Agents noticed a man watching the president's daughter and, a some point, feeling the man had shown an unusual amount of interest in her, agents confronted and frisked him, discovering he was carrying a gun, the newspaper reported.

When the man consented to let them search his car, agents found a cache of ammunition and other items in the trunk. After being questioned, he was released.

3. That story would never be told, if
the White House didn't think there would be a political positive response to it.

7. You're so right - these stories are never let out
The threats against the Clinton's and their daughter were astronomical and they never said a word about it.

13. Yeah, gotta shore up your base with a token shakedown and
release of an armed man possibly stalking your daughter. It's a nudge, nudge, wink, wink to the freepertypes with the second amendment to let them know he has to go left to be a viable candidate but reveal his true intentions at the same time.

8. If I was detained under the same circumnstances
and they searched my car they'd find a cache of ammo - I shoot competition shoots and for range practice I have probably at least a thousand rounds in my vehicle. But I don't think I'm suspicious.

If you have CCW's it's unavoidable if the Bush daughters are in public that there will be armed people around besides the SService.

And wouldn't they maybe attract attention with their entourage?

Still I feel sorry for the Bush daughters that for a long time they will have to live their life under such protection.

The TV West Wing episodes a few weeks ago that showed the President's daughter being kidnapped I found chilling and I did think of the Bush girls and Chelsea Clinton.

20. I can't believe this
They find someone with a "cache" of weapons near the *resident's daughter and they let him go? Who does he love more - his NRA cronies or his children?

14. Wow. Cool. Looking at the President's daughter is probable cause.
He wouldn't have taken an unusual interest in her due to the fact that she was surrounded by men in dark sunglasses with walkie-talkies or the fact that he recognized her from pictures of her falling on her ass drunk in Texas.

I do find it rather humorous that Bush is being bitten on the ass by concealed carry here. Bush now knows his daughter can be surrounded by armed citizens, any one of which could go wacko at any time, and there isn't a damned thing the SS can do about it.

22. Either that, or he's a Wackenhutt employee.
This sort of reminds me of how one of the 9-11 hijackers was stopped for speading and running his ID didn't set off any alarms.

19. this is their ace in the hole
I've always said that the ultimate shield for Bush will be some kind of victimization of his family. Public opinion would turn in his favor in a heartbeat.

Looks to me as if Karl Rove has been watching West Wing.

25. Affirmative action for upper-crust politically powerful whites.
They obviously need all the help they can get, otherwise, they'll be fighting minorities for all the good combat jobs in the next big war.
