Bush Disavows Mission Accomplished Banner
Edited on Tue Oct-28-03 06:28 PM by NNN0LHI
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20031028/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush_mission_accomplished_1

WASHINGTON - Six months after he spoke on an aircraft carrier deck under a banner proclaiming "Mission Accomplished," President Bush disavowed any connection with the war message.

The phrase has been mocked many times since Bush's carrier speech as criticism has mounted over the failed search for weapons of mass destruction and the continuing violence in Iraq.

When it was brought up again Tuesday at a news conference, Bush said, "The `Mission Accomplished' sign, of course, was put up by the members of the USS Abraham Lincoln, saying that their mission was accomplished." snip

Bush's disavowal Tuesday brought new criticism from retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark, who is seeking the Democratic nomination to run against the president. Clark said Bush "backtracked on his May 1 political photo op on the USS Abraham Lincoln by blaming the troops on the aircraft carrier for the declaration of 'mission accomplished' in Iraq."

19. This shit is important...READ ON
Day by day, the United States and our coalition partners are making the streets safer for the Iraqi citizens. We also understand that a more just political system will develop when people have food in their stomachs, and their lights work, and they can turn on a faucet and they can find some clean water -- things that Saddam did not do for them.

See, he spent more time building luxurious palaces than he did in building an infrastructure to take care of the Iraqi citizens. And the United States and our friends and allies will first take care of the Iraqi citizens. (Applause.) And they'll have some money to help themselves. After all, oil is now flowing. But this time the revenues are not going to be used and skimmed off by greedy gangsters. It's going to be used in a special account on behalf of the people who own the oil -- the citizens of Iraq. (Applause.)

One thing else we've done is we made sure that Iraq is not going to serve as an arsenal for terrorist -- for terrorist groups. We recently found two mobile biological weapons facilities which were capable of producing biological agents

We have to be quite vigil on the minutiea (sp?) of his statements. So when he says "I never said..." we have to point to exact time place and date.

9. Take a look at the sign
It's professionally done, with a flag motif in the background. This wasn't produced on an aircraft carrier. Looks like it was done by the people who come up with those backdrops he uses for speeches.

Besides, are they trying to tell us that their tightly staged show – so meticulous that it was timed to provide the best light for *, that the carrier circled so the coastline wasn't visible – that somehow that huge sign wasn't noticed?

But an aircraft carrier would have a full printing facility. A friend of mine worked in one.

But that doesn't mean a Rove flunky didn't arrange it.

since when do aircraft carriers make vinyl banners with color vinyl pronting on them?

I used to do stuff like that for a living, I don't really see why such expensive equipment would be on an aircraft carrier??

this banner was NOT made by a mere "printing facility". This is professional sign-making equipment doing this job. That banner is HUGE and seamless

It only takes up a 2' x 6' area on the floor. I have one ten feet from me.

But again, I am 100% sure that Rove directed this. The ship would not do Anything like this knowing the President was coming without White House direction.

Bush: Iraq is one victory in war on terror

Friday, May 2, 2003 Posted: 10:07 AM EDT (1407 GMT)

ABOARD USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CNN) -- President Bush on Thursday praised the toppling of Saddam Hussein as "a job well done," but he warned that the battle in Iraq was but "one victory in a war on terror."

Bush, addressing the nation not from the White House but from the dramatic setting of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, announced: "Major combat operations in Iraq have ended." (Transcript)

Standing on the giant flight deck, with a banner reading "Mission Accomplished" overhead on the bridge, the commander- in-chief saluted the men and women of the U.S. military.

"Because of you, our nation is more secure. Because of you, the tyrant has fallen, and Iraq is free," was his message. "America is grateful for a job well done."

seems like if he didn't want to use that sign, he would have had them take it down - he used it as a political spin moment, he needs to be spun...

Look around the bridge of a large Navy ship. There are radio antennas. Radars. Meteo sensors. Just a ton of stuff you do not need to be around if you don't know what you're doing.

I have no doubt the sailors put the banner up. I have even less doubt that some advance person from the White House flew out on a chopper with the banner in a tube, handed said tube to the chief of the deck division, and told him to be sure it gets put up.

32. Bush was repeating what to say

I watched President Bush's Press Conference today on the White House's website. Mr Bush had an earphone in his ear, and I had the impression that we was repeating the words that he was being told by someone else.

He was making constant pauses, as if listening, and restarted phrases immediately after. The rythm was very hashed, there were shorts bursts of words followed by long silences.

There were also many phrases interrupted in the middle just before another one was started. At some times, he did speak for several seconds on a row, but always interrupted himself brutally again, as if needing help to go forward.

I have no proof of all of this, of course. But even the jokes he cracks against the journalists are interrupted in the middle, which makes them weird to listen to - unless you realise that he's waiting for the punch line like everyone else :)

I don't know if you can make any use of this information, or if it can be verified at all, but maybe it can, so here it goes.

41. Dissemination

VolvanoGen, if you know people who could disseminate this information around and perhaps make it known to the press, perhaps it would help check if it can be true - or it could force Mr Bush to appear in front of cameras without any earplug.

I would love to hear if there would be any difference in style and vocabulary.

42. Freaky
I very rarely listen to or watch Chimpy, because his very voice and appearance make me physically ill, but I decided to brave it this time. Wow, his behavior was weird. He was making strange pauses in the middle of every other sentence, starting to pronounce a word, pausing, as if uncertain of something, and then pronouncing it, and his intonation was altogether that of a person who is repeating something they are reading or listening to. How could the journalists present there remain with straight faces, and not make a single comment about that is beyond me.

45. Doesn't look at journalists

Mr Bush also names journalists without pointing at them, keeping his eyes down on his desk until the journalist had started speaking and he could easily located where he was.

This would also point to someone dictating the names of the journalists to him.

BTW, it could not have been written, because he was answering direct questions. It had to be spoken, presumably through the earplug.
