National Green Party disavows Kucinich endorsement in N.H.

Leaders of the Green Party of the United States are disavowing a move by party members in New Hampshire to endorse Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich in the Democratic presidential race.

New Hampshire party members held a news conference with Kucinich on Monday to back his presidential campaign. They said the endorsement would not affect the Green Party convention in June, where the party will pick its own candidate for the 2004 election.

In a news release from Washington, the national party said the half-dozen individuals responsible for the news conference are not affiliated with the Green Party of the United States. The party said New Hampshire is one of five states which do not have a functioning state Green Party.

The Green Party of the United States includes 43 accredited state Green Parties, and will hold the party’s national convention in Milwaukee in June. The party is based on peace, social justice and environmental concerns.

The Green Party really hates the idea of having any positive impact in American politics whatsoever. Why not endorse Kucinich? What does he possibly disagree with them on? Endorsing him would tremendously improve their relations with the Democratic Party and the liberal base therof.

Kucinich is capable of being endorsed by the Greens the problem as I see it is the progressives who voted green are no longer envolved with the Green party. They have returned to the Democrats. I for one was looking at getting envolved with the Green party but with Kucinich in the race it was more important to support him and the Democratic party.

They may still support Kucinich in the end. I hope they do.

Anyone is capable of being endorsed. That's a red herring.
Actually asking for the endorsement is a rather obvious first step. If you haven't figured that out, then your expert testimony about where Green progressives are located is also suspect.

That "analysis" is facile.

Suppose that a state Democratic Party came out with an endorsement, not just ahead of the national party, but also for a candidate who belonged to another party and who had not asked to be considered for the nomination. You would have a fit.

politics, like William Jennings Bryan, why wouldn't you endorse him
and get a leg up?

I'm saying Kucinich basically is in line with the Greens.
It would probably be a good thing for the Greens to back
him because it would make their stance seem more reasonable
and it would assuage the anger of lefty dems over 2004, making
it more likely that the Greens would get their votes in the
future.

I'm fully aware that the Greens' interests and the Dems' interests
aren't the same, I'm just saying that the Greens might have a better
time of achieving their aims if they were more flexible in their
strategy.
