If U.S. President George W. Bush was surprised on his recent trip to Indonesia by the negative image the country's Muslim leaders had of his administration, he is unlikely to be reassured by two new surveys from Latin America and Europe.

...A second poll carried out by Eurobarometer for the European Commission of all 15 European Union (EU) countries found that more than two-thirds of citizens saw the U.S.-led war in Iraq as "not justified."

Only six percent of the 7,515 people polled said they believe Washington should be in charge of security in Iraq, while 43 percent agreed the job should be given to the United Nations.

Even in Baghdad itself, pollsters found skepticism about U.S. intentions running high, according to a new Gallup poll of the Iraqi capital.

Only four percent of respondents there said they accepted Washington's main stated reason for going to war – to eliminate weapons of mass destruction (WMD). More than four in ten said they believed the principal objective was to secure Iraq's oil reserves.

When Bush appears anywhere -- Northern Ireland, South Africa, Australia -- demonstrators follow, more often than not.

I understand also that polls indicate he is widely disliked in Western Europe.

He also made a series of moves that alienated other industrialized nations (i.e., rejecting agreements, withdrawing from treaties).

In short, he goes about with his mouth open and his elbows out and a smirk on his face. He's a DISASTER internationally.

Questionn though, in reading the article I am missing something from one of the quotes:

Why, earlier this year, he was ready to recognize the leader of the Venezuela coup as the new presidente, until Chavez came back into power the next day.

And "Plan Colombia" is in full swing to wipe out the small cocaine growers who are competing with the Big Boys.

And his boyz in Peru are protecting the skies from missionaries' planes!

With attention like that, it would be better to be "neglected"!

when he arrives for a state visit next month. I'm sure the protestors hitting the streets will be in the THOUSANDS! The Queen and Tony Blair ought to be totally chagrined and embarrassed for even inviting this evil bastard, war criminal to the UK! What were they thinking?

I only wish that they would lock him up in the Tower! (Temporary quarters until he can be transferred to the Hague for a trial and conviction of his crimes against humanity...along with his cohorts: Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, Powell, Rice, et. al.!)

Perhaps he'll pull his vaunted charm on her, bend her over backwards and give her a kiss, like the famous photo of the sailor kissing the nurse at the end of WWII. Or maybe he'll goose her and flash the adoring British press his loveably impish "boy's club" smirk. Winning hearts and minds all the time, that one.

I wish he'd just pull a Schwarzenegger one of these days and comment about the size of a reporter's boobs. Not that we'd ever see it on the news here. Maybe he should get back over to Poland; First Lady Kwasniewska has a nice set, a photographer caught Bush ogling her during his 2001 visit.

As for putting any of these guys in the Tower of London, PartyPooper, I have three words: red hot poker (read the sad story of Edward II).

And, the Queen is a distant cousin of her royal relative in the U.S.. Ugh!

Yes, I am very familiar with the antics of Edward I and Edward II. (Both, distant relatives of Junior...but, somehow the 'bad' genes seem to pass from one generation to the next!)

Edward 'Longshanks' is the spittin' image of Junior, dontcha' think? He was the 'Hammer" of the Scots. His son, Edward II (not a particularly great king) was humiliated and tortured...and, by many accounts...he was purportedly gay. Such irony here!
