Majority Of Adoption Agencies Now Accept Gay Parents

A survey of public and private adoption agencies across the country shows that nearly 60% of them now accept applications from gays and lesbians.

The survey, by the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute looked at 307 adoption agencies, 277 private and 30 public, regarding their policies.

It did not attempt to estimate the number of children adopted by gays; instead, the institute surveyed.

The study found that there is still strong resistance from some church-affiliated agencies, but Adam Pertman, a spokesperson for the institute predicts the number of holdouts will decrease as more gays and lesbians seek to become parents.
