WASHINGTON - Companies awarded $8 billion in contracts to rebuild Iraq (news - web sites) and Afghanistan (news - web sites) have been major campaign donors to President Bush (news - web sites), and their executives have had important political and military connections, according to a study released Thursday.

WOW, this is a great headline, make sure you rate the story a 5!!

1. kick...
:kick:

Get over there and rate this--it's only a 3.2 so far.

BTW, I realize that it's kind of obvious news to any DUer, but the great unwashed need to READ this! Sooner or later, the marks will wise up--I hope.

2. The sad part of this is that not only Halliburton & Bechtel but
every U.S. company that is in a position to bid on any contracts in Iraq fit the same profile.

3. Rated it.
The public is gradually getting the word. What will happen: Bush and friends will squeeze as much money out of the national treasury as they can, their corporate friends will buy all of Iraqs corporations and resources at rock bottom prices, a puppet government will be set up, and by next summer Bush will declare victory (the Iraqis are liberated) and many troops will come home to parades. Iraq will be out of the news, Bush will be re-selected, and the corporations will have what they wanted. Yea, democracy!

4. Read Joe Conason's "Big Lies"
He details how Bush family contributors make out like bandits when it comes to receiving government contracts.

5. Rated. It's at 4.37 but not on highest rated yet.

Go to the highest rated page and rate some of the less important articles (those with few total votes if possible) low to bring this one up.

On edit: And keep rating this one at 5 please!!!

7. This is a nice companion piece to the Newsweek article
coming out next week about waste, chaos and cronyism in the rebulding of Iraq. It is the cover story! Slowly, slowly, slowly the press turns on the pResident.

8. Haliburton takes offense
Great patriots that they are --

Halliburton's top executive, Dave Lesar, said Wednesday he was offended by criticism of the company's Iraq work but believed it was "less about Halliburton and more about external political issues."

"As a company uniquely qualified to take on this difficult assignment, we will continue to bring all of our global resources to bear at this critical time in the Middle East. We have served the military for over 50 years and have no intention of backing down at this point," he said.

17. Well I think the war was less about
protecting the US and more about giving money to companies like Halliburton. So, yeah, I think this really IS about Halliburton.

9. No confict of interest here!
no siree, nothing wrong with this... :eyes:

<snip>Many of the companies with large contracts have important political connections.

Former Secretary of State George Shultz is a member of Bechtel's board of directors, although he has no management role, according to the company's Web site.

Riley Bechtel, the chairman and chief executive officer, was named early this year to the President's Export Council, which advises the president on programs to improve U.S. trade.

Jack Sheehan, senior vice president in Bechtel's petroleum and chemicals business, served on the Defense Policy Board, which advises the defense secretary on a variety of issues.

.....fucking criminals!
