Phipps found guilty on four charges
RALEIGH - A Wake County jury convicted former state Agriculture Commissioner Meg Scott Phipps of four state charges this afternoon, but acquitted her of one.
The jury found Phipps guilty of perjury, obstruction of justice, conspiracy to commit obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting perjury. It found her not guilty of one count of suborning perjury.
Phipps resigned her post in June. She was accused of not only taking part in her 2000 campaign's criminal fund raising, but also plotting to cover it up by manipulating aides and lying to investigators.

http://www.newsobserver.com/phipps/This is more of a local story for North Carolina, but I posted it anyway as it is important. Meg is a flat out criminal who was on the take for special interests. She accepted envelopes stuffed with cash on several occasions. Among many other illegal activities. It embarasses me that she is a democrat, but I am glad she was convicted and I hope she serves hard time. She still faces 30 federal charges that dwarf these charges. Especially if she is convicted, which I strongly think she will, and should be.
Regardless of party, when elected officals are found to have committed the illegal acts that Phipps did, they should be pursued, charged, and convicted (if guilty) and sentenced to hard time. Politicians are not above the law.
Now only if House and Senate Dems in DC would get some balls and start pursuing untold numbers of crimes.
