Philippine President Gloria Arroyo struggling as impeachment crisis drags
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is looking increasingly isolated as a row over the impeachment of the nation's top judge threatens to spin out of control, giving more popular rivals a boost ahead of 2004 elections.

Political analysts said on Thursday that Arroyo's chances of winning a fresh mandate next May will be in serious doubt if she fails to defuse a crisis that has started to split the country along familiar lines.

The bid by a group of legislators, some from Arroyo's own ruling party, to remove Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide has been seen by many as a power struggle ahead of elections next May.

Supporters of ousted president Joseph Estrada, himself the subject of an impeachment trial presided over by Davide, are mobilising poor urban residents to rally in favour of the impeachment, while the Roman Catholic church and former president Corazon Aquino have been leading the fight against it.

1. If you don't hear Ramos' named mentioned in a story you're NOT getting the truth about what's going on in the Philippines.

2. If you even know the slightest about Asia, S/E Asia and the normal system, you know about family relations and the people with power control everything. Estrada was set up, framed, or possibly taking a little but no where near the common amounts sifted by Americas great leaders, Marcos, Aquino, Ramos and Arroyo. Estrada was hit by a paperwork coup.

Arroyo is one of the most disgusting leaders in all of the world. A Bush Crime Family Shemale.

Not to mention his connections to the Bechtel Corp

From 1997

Bechtel Group is days away from starting the world's largest water privatization project, a $7 billion joint-venture in the Philippines to overhaul Manila's sewage and drinking-water systems.

The San Francisco-based engineering firm won rights to half of the project Jan. 23 and is now awaiting Philippines President Fidel Ramos' final signature. That should happen within the week

2. Arroyo warns dissidents amid impeachment clash
Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo yesterday warned she'll strike hard against any group that tries to use the political crisis over efforts to impeach the Supreme Court chief justice as a pretext to destabilize the government.

3. Manila braces for impeachment ordeal - military on full alert
The Philippine military will go on full alert this week ahead of street protests in a row over the impeachment of the country's top judge but there was no question of any rogue soldiers trying to grab power, a spokesman said.

Military spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Daniel Lucero said yesterday that the nationwide alert would start this morning with troops being sent to an area of the capital Manila where the country's two "People Power" uprisings of 1986 and 2001 took place.

Tensions in the country have been running high for the past week after a move by opposition lawmakers to oust Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide prompted street protests by supporters and critics and fears of a constitutional crisis.
