Dean, Gephardt tied in Iowa poll

CAROL ANN RIHA, Associated Press Writer

Howard Dean and Dick Gephardt were tied atop the field of candidates
for the Democratic presidential nomination in a poll released
Thursday.

The former Vermont governor and the Missouri congressman each drew
the support of 26 percent of Iowa Democratic voters surveyed, while
Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts had 15 percent, according to the
poll released by KCCI-TV.

Eighteen percent of those questioned were undecided. The remaining
candidates were in single digits.

The telephone survey of 400 registered Iowa Democrats who said they
were likely to vote in the Jan. 19 precinct caucuses was conducted
Oct. 26-28 by the polling firm Research 2000.

The margin of sampling error was plus or minus 4 percentage points.

5. I don't know.
I can take the time and get there from Cali, but I've never done anything like that before. The idea of ringing a stranger's doorbell is kind of weird, but I'm getting the feeling that it's not weird to Iowans. The thing is, it only takes a moment to volunteer, and then I'm committed. And I've already stuck a toe in the water. If I get pressure at meetup next week I'm done for. Oh what the heck, I might as well start researching cheap motels. I'll do a lot for Dean, but sleeping on a floor isn't one of them!
