Q and A: Israel's criticism from within
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/3231401.stm
The Israeli Chief of Staff Moshe Yaalon has openly criticised his country's treatment of Palestinians - causing a public rift within Israel's cabinet. The BBC's Jerusalem correspondent, Barbara Plett, explains.

1. there's always more debate and criticism inside Israel than
what the US media audience gets.

From US media you'd never guess that there are wideranging debates going on in Israel, that not everyone marches in lockstep with Likud, that it is established as a fact based on Israeli historians' work in Israeli archives that the Palestinians were expelled in 1948, etc. etc.

Pretty ironic how controlled the media is in the "beacon of democracy" that the US likes to think that it is...

2. The General's Remarks Are Most Sensible, My Friend
They have been discussed at length down in Foreign Affairs for the last couple of days.

6. Sensible?
Why, some might say that he is the very model of a modern major general.

3. the rift is just making it outside of Israel
this raging debate has been ongoing for literally over a year.

Just that if you read the JP you would never get it... Ha'Aretz hints
at it, in teh English edition but Yediot Ahronot is full of it...

No, people do NOT march in lockstep in Israel

5. That Is Purest Tripe, Dear
Many here, myself included, have said frequently just about what Gen. Ya'alon said the other day.

Distortion, and cultivation of a fraudulent image as persecuted victim, do nothing to advance even the cause you advocate: they only show you to be far more interested in heat than light in discussing the subject.
