Number of Hungry Families in U.S. Rising (Third year in a row)

WASHINGTON - About 12 million American families last year worried that they couldn't afford to buy food, and 32 percent of them actually experienced someone going hungry at one time or another, the Agriculture Department said Friday.

It was the third year in a row that the department has seen an increase in the number of households experiencing hunger and those worried about having enough money to pay for food.

Based on a Census Bureau survey of 50,000 households, the department estimated that 3.8 million families were hungry last year to the point where someone in the household skipped meals because they couldn't afford them. That's an 8.6 percent increase from 2001, when 3.5 million families were hungry, and a 13 percent increase from 2000.

Also, more and more families are unsure if they can afford to eat or don't have enough food in their cupboards.

3. Halliburton's profits up 80%!! See? there IS some good news!
" HOUSTON, United States (AFP) - US oil industry services giant Halliburton said Thursday its Kellogg Brown and Root unit's profits rose four-fold and sales leapt 80 percent, boosted by work in Iraq (Profits from the unit's operations soared to 49 million dollars in the three months to September from 12 million dollars a year earlier, helped by "government services activity in the Middle East," Halliburton said.

KBR, the engineering and construction division that netted a no-bid government contract to help rebuild Iraq's shattered oil industry, also posted an 80-percent jump in sales to 2.3 billion dollars. "

4. Food stamps don't last a month
People have to depend on food banks to make it through, and the food banks themselves are overwhelmed with many more families needing their services, along with a sharp drop in donations. It's just fucking outrageous how those bastards can loot our treasury to line their own greedy pockets, while people starve in this country.

8. Third year in a row, huh?
Probably just a coincidence that THREE YEARS is how long bu$h has been in power? Yeah, that's it, no connection at all, so move along. Get over it.

:grr:

And there's no way now to figure out how many hungry Americans that budget surplus could have fed, so stop saying that!

9. I hope every one of these families
are registered voters. You're right: it's beyond outrageous what they are doing. Spending how much? I've read $160 billion on Iraq, and that's just an appetizer before the dinner arrives (sorry, no pun intended).

Think of how little it costs to feed people. Compared to the military, it's actually a small part of the budget. I believe food stamps have never been a huge part of any state's budget.

Kinda reminds you of a country, far away, on the eastern end of Europe, called Russia. Recall what happened to them, as well. They kept spending proportionately more & more on their military arsenal, at the expense of social programs. Ultimately, they imploded from within.
