Israeli UN ambassador: Iran is 'lunatic regime'
http://newsfromrussia.com/world/2006/01/25/71711.html

Israel's U.N. ambassador on Tuesday called Iran an "extreme, fundamentalist, lunatic regime" and said it is the U.N. Security Council's duty to prevent "another Holocaust."

Ambassador Dan Gillerman made the comments to The Associated Press on the sidelines of the opening of an exhibit at the U.N. for Holocaust remembrance week. His comments come on the heels of a report last week that Iran is planning a conference that will examine evidence for the Holocaust.

"Iran is proving yet again what an extreme, fundamentalist, lunatic regime it is," Gillerman said. "If the world had any doubts and thought that Iran may become more moderate, the statements by the president of Iran and this upcoming conference are another proof of what a global threat Iran really is."

The conference is Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's latest step in a campaign against Israel.

2. Hardly the only one

Not much nuttier than North Korea and arguably more modern and diverse demographically.

And it's dangerous to overreact to provocations that might as much be fore internal consumption and reasons as international ones.

Are we going to plunge the Persian Gulf into possible chaos over a conference, no matter out outrageous it seems ?
