Draft the Donald! Campaign Effort Begins (Trump for President 2008)
ALBANY, N.Y. - The head of New York's Independence Party has launched a Web site aiming to draft Donald Trump into the 2008 presidential race as a third-party candidate.

Party Chairman Frank MacKay says he recently met with Trump to tell him about the draft plan. MacKay says the mega-developer was flattered and intrigued by the idea but noncommittal about running for president.

Trump considered a third-party run for the White House six years ago as the candidate of the
Ross Perot-inspired Reform Party, but eventually decided against it.

MacKay's Web site is http://www.donaldtrump2008.com.

6. Draft his miserable ass, ABSOLUTELY, and send him to IRAQ
I find him clownish, childish and offensive. I think he is a con man, I don't watch his shitty show, and do not patronize his cheesy enterprises.

Plus, with all his fucking money, he should do something with that pathetic gerbil of a haircut on his head.

He is a LOSER with cash. If he had no dough, he couldn't get a fucking cab in the Bronx!

I'd take that felon Martha over him any day of the week!! I would not vote for that bozo for Janitor of the Month!

I don't even remember what he's pushing...some phone thing I think. The camera angle is weird! I've seen it about 4 times, and can;t help but switch the chanel when it comes on now.

All Donald is, is good at gaming the financial system!

8. It would be a refresher
Another third party candidate to take away votes from the Republicans and allow the Dems to snatch a plurality in the electorate.

15. I'd like to believe that,
because I do believe that plurality of the parties will necessarily cause them all to try harder---presumably. But what's the track record with this? Wasn't Nader a factor in the 2000 elections? I can't quote anything regarding this, but just wanted to add this as ballast against the presumption that a Trump ticket would only take away (enough) Republican votes. Though, that's primarily who would splinter away more than any others, right?

This said, I think Trump would be a setback for the concept of third-party viability, something that only gets a chance every four years or so. And, I also agree he's sort of clownish and not a serious "politician" in the better sense of the word. Service to something bigger than himself? I really think we need service-minded people in politics now, and Mr. Trump seems anything but.

16. I Might Have Voted for Trump if He Had Run
Whatever my personal feelings about him, his platform consisted of:

1) National health care,
2) Renegotiating treaties on foreign trade to be more favorable to the US, and
3) A one-time tax of 14% on all personal assets of over $10 million, which would be used to retire the national debt.

And yes, he was willing to pay that himself if it got rid of the debt. You have to hand it to him, he doesn't think small.

17. In related articles they claim Trump is a repig
...which is laughable, because his campaign contribution report shows he's given more to Democrats than pigs.

Plus, how many Republicans have given to Hillary (repeatedly and as recently as 3 months ago), Harold Ford Jr, Charlie Rangel, John Kerry, Erskine Bowles, etc?

Trump hosts fund-raiser for Crist at Mar-a-Lago

The Associated Press
Posted February 4 2006

PALM BEACH · It's pretty clear whom Donald Trump wants voters to hire as Florida's next governor.

Trump, the mega-developer and star of TV's The Apprentice, planned to open his opulent seaside Mar-a-Lago mansion Friday night for a fund- raiser to benefit Republican gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist. About 400 people were expected to attend.

22. When Trump went through the motions of running for president in 2000
he was publicizing another ghost-written book and sent out press releases that he would welcome Oprah Winfrey has his running mate.

He also contradicts himself. He said nearly a week after 9-11 to the effect of "Let's be honest, the WTC was an ugly building. It should have come down." And last year, when his show was nearing its climax, he unveiled his version of a better design for the replacement of the WTC: an exact replica of the design he abhorred on record with the addition of a few more floors.

How can anyone take this guy seriously? Certainly not him. He's P.T. Barnum reincarnate, laughing at himself, at us, saying, "There's a sucker born everyday."

Betcha can't tell me, can you?
