ANKARA (AFP) - Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari brushed aside President Jalal Talabani's criticism of his one-day visit to Turkey, arguing that the trip was in order with the law.
"This is a legal visit in line with the rules. I am very happy with the results of my visit," Jaafari told reporters at the airport before his departure home.
Talabani strongly criticised Jaafari for flying out to neighbouring Turkey Tuesday without referring the matter to other members of the government while talks were still underway on forming a new government.
Jaafari should act in a caretaker capacity running day-to-day government business and "has no right to enter into talks or discussions with other countries," Talabani's office said in a statement.
