Bush, an Opponent of Raising Taxes, Proposes $47 Bln in Fees
.... Ah yes, right out of St ronnie's playbook.......
March 1 (Bloomberg) -- While President George W. Bush is adamantly against raising taxes, he's increasingly comfortable with imposing billions of dollars in new government fees, as the airline, commodities and shipping industries have discovered.
Bush's 2007 budget proposal would raise more than $47 billion over the next five years by imposing, raising or extending expiring fees on everything from airline tickets to oil drilling to commodity transactions to ships passing through the St. Lawrence Seaway.
``It's a way for the administration to get around its `we'll never-raise-taxes' attitude,'' said Stan Collender, managing director of the Washington office of Financial Dynamics, a business-consulting firm.

11. Sounds like all of the fees mentioned are on industries and not consumers
but we all now how that works. Their fees go up and so do their prices which do effect consumers. Usually prices are raised more than enough to cover any fee increases, it just gives the industry cover to raise prices.

3. It's what we did here in Wisconsin.
Everyone from the Republicans to Doyle said, "NO TAX INCREASES!" and then raised fees like crazy, particularly hurting hunters and fishermen.

12. Same in MN - Pawlenty said no new taxes, then loaded on "fees"
and displaced expenses to the local level. He got his ass handed to him with a "Cigarette Health Impact Fee" though - it was declared as a tax, which was not allowed due to a settlement with Big Tobacco. He misappropriated all the settlement money to pay for his "no taxes" and then tried to dip back into the well.

7. Good
No more local property taxes for supporting airports etc etc.

Let those that use it pay for it?

The rugged individualist every man for himself society. The weak and timid will die. Those that got it will lose it to thieves, crooks, hungry people and other bad guys.

Soon the poor will own the rich because poor people have survival skills.

9. Our governor promisted not to raised taxes...
...then put a "health impact fee" in the budget to balance the books. The "fee" was then struck down on a technicality dealing with the lawsuits against the tobacco industry back in the 90's, and since Gov. Pawlenty will veto any tax increase, Minnesotans will get even more pissed off at him if his veto threat forces the legeslature to do spending cuts to balance the budget.

10. K&R #1 for this is IT! The ONE deal-ly that matters!
Shrub has survived this long despite cheenee-ing-up and lied about everything else because he has kept the cut-taxes sacrament. Breaking that ONE thing did Poppy in with their wacko followers. With Shrub they don't care if he has lied about EVERYTHING, including everything BIGGER than that, so long as he didn't abandon them on THIS. So here it is.
