Bloomberg
Bush Approval Drops as Strength on Terrorism Fades, Poll Shows
March 2, 2006

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000087&sid=azYH1WXTKqkU&refer=top_world_news

March 2 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush's public support continues to fall as his signature political strength, fighting terrorism, is undercut by overwhelming opposition to plans to let a Dubai company operate U.S. port facilities.

Bush's job approval rating fell to 38 percent in the latest Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times poll, a five-point drop from a month ago, fueled by declines in his handling of terrorism and the Iraq war.

The poll taken from Feb. 25 to March 1 found for the first time that a majority, 54 percent, disapproves of Bush's performance on terrorism. It also found that almost two-thirds of Americans disapprove of Bush's handling of Iraq, amid a surge in sectarian violence there. Sixty-four percent say the U.S. is on the wrong track, while 30 percent say it's going in the right direction.

In the poll, 58 percent say they oppose allowing DP World, Dubai's state-owned port operator, to acquire facilities at six U.S. ports. Most of those opposed say they are ``strongly'' against the idea; just 17 percent support it.

2. Uh-HUH! That's his strongest card. Hell, it's been his ONLY card for
some time now. And it's gone from an ace to a two.

Need MORE polls like this! The more the merrier - harder to ignore!

4. Now in all these polls with Bush below 40% were more Dems poled than Repub
The other day when a pole showed Bush with 34% all the wing nuts said it was because more Dems were poled than Repubs. So what gives with 3 or 4 more poles showing Bush below 40%? Maybe it is like the freeps tell us, more Dems are home to answer the phone because they don't work and the Repubs can't answer the phone because they are all out working their butts off to make the economy run.

14. Yeah, that really makes a lot of sense - NOT. Try again, but this
time use your head and think JUST MAYBE people are sick to their stomach of the Dimson and his brigade cause most people are.

15. Or maybe lots of ex-repubs
so disgusted with shrub that they now identify themselves as democrats.

Most likely, the fall in shrubs numbers, documented in ALL the polls, is caused by (gasp, could it actually be?) people just being fed up with his BS. Like, for instance, his habit of responding to the fact that people just DON'T LIKE HIM ANYMORE by starting up a publicity campaign to convince people that they actually do like him and the polls are wrong.

Facts are stubborn things.

16. Maybe they should learn about how polls are conducted...
before they go shooting off their stupid mouths. Polls like these are not just random sample polls. They actually use adjusted random samples where they poll a specific number of people with a specific set of characteristics (such as voting Republican/Democrat, employed/unemployed, etc) to try and make sure that their sampling represents the population at large. I've been polled numerous times where the person asked a few qualifying questions and then thanked me for my time, but they had enough people that fit my demographic.

And another thing... I happen to work from home and make nearly three times the national average income. How's that for making the economy run?

20. well, here's a Gallup PolL showing *'s "1% above the lowest approval
rating of his presidency."

And how about this: "The proportion who strongly disapprove has risen to 44%, the highest ever."

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-03-02-ports-poll_x.htm?POE=NEWISVA

Gallup polls have tended to over-sample Republicans and not surprisingly, results are usually more favorable for Bush than are other poll results (except Faux, of course). So how do you explain their below 40% results?

7. "[America's] trust and confidence in President Bush is crystal clear."
My dog gets the GOP fundraising communiques. They always contain lies, but the latest is more transparent than ever, and I can hardly imagine even the staunchest Repug buying this load of crap. Maybe they're setting Bush up for a big "reform the GOP" campaign ("New! Improved! 20% less corruption!") Or maybe they're just pathological liars. This letter states:

Nov 2004 election was "a sweeping and historic vistory."

"There can be no doubt: America has spoken... and her trust and confidence in President Bush is crystal clear."
"But the LIBERALS... want BIGGER GOVERNMENT, HIGHER TAXES and MORE CONTROL OVER YOUR CHOICES."

"By standing up and joining the RNC today, you'll be opportunity for every American."

10. Huh. And here I thought Bush's "signature political strength"
was that so many folks wanted to do a beer-bong at a barbecue with the little dipshit.

I wonder who's got it wrong here?
