ISLAMABAD, Pakistan

Anti-U.S. protests erupted across Pakistan on Friday, with crowds burning American flags, chanting "Death to Bush" and scuffling with police shortly before the American president was to arrive for a two-day visit.

Hundreds of police swung batons as they dispersed about 1,000 protesters on a major road in the city of Rawalpindi, about four miles from where President Bush's plane was expected to land outside the capital, Islamabad.

Some demonstrators chanted "Killer go back" and "Death to America" during the 30-minute protest. One protester had a bloody forehead, and police stuffed at least five others into a van, an AP photographer on the scene said.

The demonstrators were supporters of the Imamia Students Organization, a Shiite Muslim group. Some trampled on the U.S. flag, while others carried Bush portraits with his face crossed out in red.

2. Bush is really winning 'hearts and minds' in the Global War on Terror
...ain't he? Just another example how Bush policies are actually LOSING the WOT - we're minting new enemies while casting-off old friendships. Worst president ever.

6. Hey, when you draw
cartoons--and get them published--at the behest of the Jews and then blow up an important shrine, people don't like you. An imam said it; it must be true.

Get back at * and punish the Jews--boycott Denmark!

5. A coworker of my husband is supposed to go to Karachi on business,
but the trip keeps getting put off because of all the anti-American sentiment and violence there. I'm beginning to think he isn't going to be able to go until after the 2008 elections.
