AP: Pizza Magnate Modifies Plans for Fla. Town
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/CATHOLIC_TOWN?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=US

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- The founder of Domino's Pizza backtracked Friday from earlier comments that he'd like to establish a new town in Florida governed by strict Roman Catholic principles, denying access to birth control and pornography.

...

"There's a lot of misconceptions about this. I don't really have a vision for the town. I have a vision for the university," Monaghan said Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America."

Last year he told a a Catholic men's group in Boston that pornographic magazines won't be sold in town, pharmacies won't carry condoms or birth control pills, and cable television will carry no X-rated channels. Monaghan said Friday those comments were "out of place."

...

Marinelli said it will be requested that stores not sell contraceptives, but the sale of birth control won't be restricted. He said the town would not bar access to any cable television program, but the town will not have adult bookstores or topless clubs.

3. An article from November with what he REALLY envisions:
Monaghan's Catholic Jonestown?

Juan Non-Volokh and Ann Althouse have both written of Tom Monaghan's plan to move his Ave Maria Law School to a town in Florida - a town where he owns everything. Monaghan, you may remember, is not only the founder of Domino's Pizza, he is also the founder of the Thomas More Law Center, which is attached at least informally to the Ave Maria Law School. He is from Ann Arbor and these operations are currently located there, but he plans to move them to a new town outside of Naples, Florida, which he will call Ave Maria Town. I'm with them, this sounds downright creepy and cult-like:

"We'll own all commercial real estate," declared, describing his vision. "That means we will be able to control what goes on there. You won't be able to buy a Playboy or Hustler magazine in Ave Maria Town. We're going to control the cable television that comes in the area. There is not going to be any pornographic television in Ave Maria Town. If you go to the drug store and you want to buy the pill or the condoms or contraception, you won't be able to get that in Ave Maria Town."

Domino's CEO Brandon to head DeVos campaign
Published Tuesday, January 17, 2006 1:36:52 PM Central Time

LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Domino's Pizza Inc. CEO David Brandon will head Republican Dick DeVos' campaign to unseat Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

Brandon, who lives in Ann Arbor and serves on several nonprofit boards in the Detroit area -- including Detroit Renaissance and The Parade Company, which produces Detroit's annual Thanksgiving Day parade -- said he wants to help the Kent County businessman improve his ties to the vote-heavy region.

"A great number of my friends and a network of friends are here in southeast Michigan," Brandon told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "What I hope to do is help him win."

Will they even allow women (since they hate them so much) or is it just going to be a bunch of sexually repressed self-hating closeted gays like the fellas in his "Catholic men's group"?

Hey, I'll get rich, and he'll have his dream town!

But seriously, who would want to live in a place with no TV (he says no porn, but have you looked at TV lately? They'll have to block it all) and where there is no way to plan when you have kids?

23. Daughter and I just order a LOCAL Mom & Pop Pizza
We like Dominino's but are boycotting them over this. By the way, my husband lives and works in Naples (separated). I sent him this article. He wrote me back FURIOUS over this. He said he had no idea what kind of a person this Monaghan was. He called him a Catholic PAT ROBERTSON and printed the article I sent him and gave it to every person in his office. He called his "neighbors" in Naples who supported this SHORT SHIGHTED. Incidentally, not only is he a Catholic (cafteria style to them since we birth controled and sterilized them out of existence) and a REPUBLICAN, most of the people he works with in Naples are transplanted New Yorkers.

I hope this makes a difference.

26. Don't understand these people
I'm always curious how these people think. They seem to assert that if they can just get everyone to think and act the same way all of society's problems would be eliminated. I hate to point this out to everyone but I have yet to find two people who agree on everything (and how boring would that be anyway). Even if you can get a group that mostly agrees with each other there will be problems, just look at the child molestation problems the Catholic church has had in the past. To be fair, other groups have problems too, they just don't come to light as often. This isolation or command/control concept always seems to fail (Jonestown is an extreme example, also Jim Baker though not as bad). I'm not sure why they keep trying.

I wish people would see this for what it really is. This project of his isn't about faith, Jesus, Catholicism, family values, or God. It's about marketing and money! He's putting his baited hook out there and enough people are biting at the bait.

As one DUer said in a post "The money changers are back in the temple".
