Israeli couple attack Christian Shrine (Nazerath)
http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/2006-03-03-nazareth_x.htm?csp=24

Of course, the couple is not linked to any "terrorist" group nor do they have any "nationalist" motives. They are said to have mental problems. No one was killed although several were injured.

2. Are you suggesting
that you don't believe they have mental problems, and that they are linked to some sort of terrorist group, or have nationalist motives?

3. I think what the OP is suggesting is that they are being given
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 08:19 PM by Hoping4Change
the benefit of doubt right from the getgo that their motives are not nefarious but unintentional stemming from emotional problems. I think the OP has a valid point.

5. None of the stories
I've read regarding this suggests that they are being given any undue benefit of doubt. Officials have simply stated that at this time they don't appear to have any nationalist motives. Both have had psychiatric issues. There was evidently some threat about removing their children from their custody. The man is Jewish, his wife is Christian. It's difficult to translate this as undue benefit of of doubt.

6. I think it is very suspicious given that the story says
"officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. No information was available on the woman who was with them."

What makes you confident that the Isrealis aren't going into a spin mode and doing damage control?

7. I don't find it particularly suspicious.
"Police officials said the Jerusalem couple had been treated for psychiatric problems in the past and authorities had questioned them this week and threatened to place their children in foster care.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media. No information was available on the woman who was with them."

Perhaps the police aren't authorized to disclose psychiatric information about the couple. Regarding the third woman, other stories identify her as the daughter of the couple.

I'm neither confident nor suspicious of the Isralis. I'm drawing my tentative conclusions from the stories I've read: The couple both had psychiatric problems in the past. One of them was a Christian. They didn't use bombs are guns. They brought in firecrackers in a baby pram. The firecrackers were not powerful There was no damage to the church. All these indicate to me that this wasn't an attack by terrorists.

I could be wrong, but I'm not going to automatically assume that the Israelis were trying to cover up an attack by ultra religious right wingers.

And it was particularly vicious, tasty bait at that.
