Weather watchers in Qinghai Province and the Tibet Autonomous Region in northwest China have reported the highest winter temperatures ever recorded.

Some parts of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau reported temperatures that were 4 to 5 degrees Celsius above average between the beginning of December and the end of February, the China Meteorological Administration said yesterday.

1. Watch "the roof of the world" to know where we're headed.
This is just one more bit of alarming news to add to the long list of evidence that things are breaking down.

(whom I have known for many years but who has grown more extreme over time), in response to Global Warming, says that it is normal: "Look at history - these are natural patterns that happen over time!" She refuses to believe that it has anything to do with what we have done to our planet; she especially refuses to believe that anything Prince W has dictated has anything to do with it.

7. well honestly,
she has a point. Or maybe not. Frankly, we simply don't have good enough data to know the long term changes that are happening. That does not mean, in any way shape or form that there isn't an amplification effect that increased levels of atmospheric carbon are having on the global climate system, and that frankly, most of the measures to reduce atmospheric carbon emmissions are good policy for a whole bunch of reasons, not simply climate change.

It's like the Hockey Stick. I know some brilliant (much more so than I) people who just spent two days in DC arguing about this:

there are major issues with man-made climate change, there is something happening, but we really don't know what, and more importantly, we don't know what the effects will be. So we should prepare for the worst, and a major reduction in atmospheric carbon is simply a good plan for that.
