Iraqi interior minister plans to dissolve militias
http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2006-03/04/content_4258042.htm

BAGHDAD, March 4 (Xinhuanet) -- Iraqi Interior Minister Bayan JabrSolagh said Saturday that the Iraqi government is implementing a plan to dissolve militias.

"I have sent a letter to all militias, ordering them to dissolve themselves," Solagh told reporters in a news conference. He said that negotiations with different militias were underway to implement the plan.

"There is no reason to be afraid of militias," asserted Solagh as he rejected charges that these militias are blamed for the sectarian violence following the Feb. 22 bombing of one of the most revered Shiite shrine in Samarra, some 120 km north of Baghdad.

"We don't have militia problem. However, some militias may have been involved in the sectarian strife," Solagh said. Solagh pointed out that 10 million U.S. dollars will be allocated to help dissolve these militias by finding jobs for thousands of militiamen, including in security forces. The plan also stated that those disbanded militiamen would be separated to ensure they are not gathering again in their new jobs, the interior minister added.

4. Bremer banned militias in june 2003 (except kurish area)

.... Militias have been banned in Iraq except in the northern Kurdish enclave since June 2003 by Paul Bremer, the then head of U.S. authorities in Iraq.

But violence and insecurity led the militias to stay put. The recent sectarian reprisals in the wake of the Shiite shrine bombing in Samarra have killed hundreds of Iraqis in the past two weeks. Enditem

5. Who thot up this idea? - noone is going to disarm while the USA is in Iraq
.
.
.

They might SAY they are disarming/disbanding

And many Iraqis know that using American $$ to disband themselves and get new jobs will most likely bring a worse fate than opposing Saddam when he was in power.

Should we add Solagh to the growing list of USA puppets over there?
