DOJ chief: 7 more in media watched (Philippines)
Reporting the news is a crime under the Arroyo dictatorship, particularly if the reporting leads to the public getting upset at what President Arroyo is doing.

SEVEN more print and broadcast personalities are being monitored for possible inciting to sedition charges, Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez told the Inquirer yesterday.

Speaking by phone from Iloilo, Gonzalez said the seven media persons were apart from those on a list prepared by Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno, who had earlier ordered the filing of sedition charges against Daily Tribune publisher and editor in chief Ninez Cacho-Olivares and two of the paper's columnists.

Inciting to sedition is punishable by a prison term of up to six years.

In an interview on Friday, Gonzalez said the Department of Justice was "currently evaluating the transcript" of ABS-CBN's coverage of the Feb. 26 standoff at Marine headquarters in Fort Bonifacio.

"If warranted, we will file sedition charges against everyone who had something to do with the coverage," he said.

1. Here is what all the fuss is about
BTW: we have been listening to Manila talk radio, No one is taking this seriously

- The document disclosed the "Final Talk 2" between the Communist Party and the Makabayang Kawal Pilipino composed of the rightist Magdalo Group and Honasan.

The evidence, according to the military was contained in the "electronic files" seized from San Juan and Belmonte during their arrest last week.

The groups, the military said, were divided into two with those belonging to the leftist group branding themselves as "P" or Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas and "KAB" or Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan for the rightist group.

The military said the "P" group is composed of Leo Velasco, member of the Central Committee, National Military Commission of the CPP; Prudencio Calubid, Adilberto Silva, Tirso Alcantara, chief of the Southern Tagalog Regional Operational Command and three other members of the communist party identified only as Jason, Cris and Mario.

Those in the "KAB" were Honasan alias "Bitoy," "Sony," believed to be retired Army colonel Rafael Galvez; "Sy" believed to be retired colonel Marcelino "Jake" Malajacan; San Juan who was named "Enteng"; Belmonte alias Mark; "Karlo" believed to be retired Navy captain Felix Turingan and one Basil.

Galvez, Turingan and Malajacan were among the core group of the Rebolusyonaryong Alyansang Makabansa led by Honasan who launched several failed coup attempts during the administration of former President Corazon Aquino.

The document said the group held a meeting on February 20 as evidenced by the minutes of their "Final Talk."

"The confluence of events from February 24 has validated the established plans as both parties have agreed upon. But it does not stop there. Based on retrieved documents, that is just the beginning of a series of events that would unfold in the next few weeks. The chain of events is a product of more that two years of the alliance's critical planning. Based on discussions, the after effect would be disastrous to the Armed Forces in particular and the government in general since the CPP-NPA would man and control the situation in the long run," the document said.
