Civil liberties board to meet, finally
More than a year after it was created the White House's Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board will soon hold its first session.

Newsweek reported the board's five members are slated to be sworn in at the White House and convene their first session next week.

Board members told Newsweek the panel intends to tackle contentious issues immediately -- such as President George W. Bush's domestic wiretapping program, the Patriot Act and Pentagon data mining.

Critics question whether the White House intends to treat the panel as anything more than window dressing.

Chimp is not creative. Look to his past to see what he is going to do in the future.

2. Well, that is a little hopeful. Maybe like Patrick Fitzgerald -- what
ever happened to him? -- something may be done -- if Tucker Carlson is saying that the reason Bush lost the Iraqi war is that BUSH is a liberal??? Maybe the tide really is turning against Bushco. The interview with Tucker Carlson making that amazing statement was quoted on Daily Kos today.

Kos poster to "Voices Carry by DarkSyde Sun Mar 05, 2006"

"While the 9/11 Commission had pushed hard for the board to ensure that some agency within the government would specifically review potential abuses, the White House and congressional leaders sharply restricted its scope and denied the board basic tools like subpoena power, Newsweek said."
