China's foreign minister has urged the US, Taiwan's biggest arms provider, to take "concrete measures" against any Taiwanese bids for independence.
Li Zhaoxing, speaking on the sidelines of China's annual parliament session, said Taiwan was the most important issue facing China-US relations.

Chinese President Hu Jintao is due to visit Washington next month.

1. Interesting....
think of China as "speak softly and carry a BIG stick". The Chinese don't mess around. They don't get up and grandstand, like Einstein. They don't make stupid statements and then renege on them, or act like a clown (got that, Bush?) and embarrass an entire country.

When the Chinese say something, you better listen. Because unlike Bush, they mean what they say. If they warn the US not to encourage Taiwan to be independent, Washington better pay attention.

But that stupid clown Bush will probably think of it as a joke. He'll call China and make jokes.

6. Absolutely not.
The last thing we want is for the US to become weak. But that, unfortunately, is what Bush has done. He has gutted the treasury for his adventure in the Middle East.

5. In April of 2001, the Chinese provoked an incident
over a spyplane, evidently to test the new President Bush. So "the Chinese don't mess around" might not be exactly correct. But you are right, we should be very careful regarding Taiwan; the mainland Chinese (and many Chinese-Americans) do not understand why we would have any right to be involved in that dispute whatsoever.

The Chinese demand control over Taiwan.
I remember when all our crap was made there. (Made in Taiwan)
Now all our crap is made in China.

Taiwan is a democracy
China is a Dictatorship.

Who's side are we on?

ok, what will now happen is bushco. will send condi, rumsfeld and cheney out to rant and rave about this 'dangerous provocation', crying that china is 'destabilizing the region with these THREATS'...

ok, just kidding, they'll do nothing of the sort. such reactions are reserved only for iran and venezuela and syria.
