Iraq police find 18 hanged men on Baghdad bus
Iraq police find 18 hanged men on Baghdad bus
Wed Mar 8, 2006 7:37 AM GMT

By Lutfi Abu Oun

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The bound and blindfold bodies of 18 men who had been hanged were found dumped in a minibus in Baghdad, police and hospital officials said on Wednesday.

Apparent victims of a "dirty war" being waged by sectarian armed factions, the identities of the men were unclear. Some bore signs of torture and other wounds, officials said.

"The medical report shows that all of them were hanged," a source at Baghdad's Yarmuk hospital said.

"We found a rope round the neck of one of the victims."

Some of the bodies, some bleeding, were seen by Reuters reporters at the hospital. They were dressed in civilian clothes and appeared to include young and middle-aged men.

Ambassador Holds Talks With Top Shiite; 23 Bodies Found in Parts of Baghdad
By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA AND STEVEN R. HURST

BAGHDAD, Iraq Mar 8, 2006 (AP)— The U.S. ambassador held talks with a top Shiite leader Tuesday as Iraqi factions wrangled over a new government. The prime minister declared he would not be "blackmailed" into stepping aside, and the Shiite majority balked at convening the parliament.

The inability to agree is threatening to crush American hopes of beginning a troop pullout this summer as violence rages on. Bombings, mortar blasts and gunfire killed 19 more people throughout the country Tuesday, and police also reported finding four more bullet-riddled bodies two of them with their eyes gouged out.

On Wednesday, at least 23 bodies many of them hanged were found dumped in parts of Baghdad, police said. Eighteen of the bodies were found in an abandoned minibus on a road between two mostly Sunni Muslim neighborhoods in western Baghdad.

Holding a first session of parliament is a required step toward forming a new government. Fifteen days after the first meeting, parliament is supposed to elect a new president a job the incumbent, Jalal Talabani, wants to keep. In 15 more days, the parliament is to approve the nominated prime minister and 30 days later must vote on his Cabinet.

3. If they would only accept freedom, they could get some of these nice
overcoats, too! With cowboy boots and hats! Apparently they have no fashion sense, as well as no successful survival instincts.

Iraqi "soldiers" trained by America are joining the militias to carryout acts of terrorism, rather than defend the new Iraqi government hiding in the Green Zone.

(snip23 men found shot dead in various parts of Baghdad
09:22 Wednesday March 8th 2006

The bodies of at least 23 men who appear to have been brutally executed have been found dumped in various parts of Baghdad today.
A US military patrol found 18 bodies in an abandoned minibus in the west of the city.

Iraqi police said two of the men appeared to be foreign Arabs and all had been handcuffed, blindfolded and either hanged or shot.

Meanwhile, the bodies of four more men who had also been handcuffed and shot were found in a field in the eastern Baghdad, while another body was found in a nearby suburb with a gunshot wound to the head.
(snip)

Sunni politicians claims they are being executed by death squads set up by the Shi'ite-run Interior Ministry, which controls the police and security forces.

12. Bodies found garrotted in Iraq
Bodies found garrotted in Iraq
Wed Mar 8, 2006 7:42 AM ET
By Lutfi Abu Oun
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The bodies of 18 men -- bound, blindfolded and strangled -- were found in a Sunni Arab district of Baghdad, apparent victims of the sectarian turmoil gripping Iraq that threatens the formation of a coalition government.

Iraq's Shi'ite interior minister, a hate figure for many Sunnis who accuse him of condoning death squads, escaped an apparent assassination attempt on Wednesday after his convoy was hit by a roadside bomb as it left the ministry compound in Baghdad. The minister, however, was not in his car.

The bombing of an important Shi'ite shrine in Samarra on February 22 has pitched Iraq toward civil war, unleashing a wave of sectarian killings and deepening the divide and mutual suspicion between the country's majority Shi'ites and minority Sunnis.

The dumping of bodies bearing signs of torture and killed execution-style has long been a feature of the violence. The 18 bodies discovered by U.S. troops in western Baghdad late on Tuesday had all been garrotted and had their hands bound with plastic ties, police and hospital officials said.
