Americans Want Saddam to Hang if Convicted
Most people in the United States want Saddam Hussein to hang if he's convicted at his trial, a view not shared by some longtime American allies.

The poll found 73 percent of those surveyed in the United States saying Saddam is getting a fair trial. Many in the other countries surveyed aren't so sure. A third or less of the people in Mexico, Spain and South Korea say Saddam is getting a fair trial. Less than half in France say he is getting a fair shake. "The trial is not fair," said Evelyne Jacotot, 56, a seller of rare stamps in Paris.

In the United States, the survey found more than one-third favoring life in prison for Saddam if he is convicted.

The polling also found that two-thirds of the people in the U.S. were convinced that Iraqis are better off now than they were under Saddam _ a higher percentage than in the other countries polled. People in Mexico, South Korea and Spain were far more inclined to say Iraqis are doing worse.

6. It shouldn't be up to us, f'r chrissakes. The people polled must have been
the twisted slow learners who bought the Saddam-Hussein-connection-to-9/ll lie from Bush/Cheney. Republicans have tapped into the reality you can tell these people ANYTHING, and they'll buy it, no matter how outlandish, if you're a right-wingding.

20. Huh? Saddam was a GREAT threat to 'Murica..
.. see.. he was going to launch some duct-taped remote control toy planes across the oceans to either spray the US with tons of Serin or VX, or to drop a nuke on the US.
See.. oceans no longer pertect us. :scared:

The WORLD is a better place without Saddam. Didn't ya get the memo?

10. Um, we don't HANG people in the United States
Edited on Wed Mar-08-06 06:08 AM by Hissyspit
There must be a reason for that, hunh? So why should it be alright for us to want anyone hanged?

Anyway, woopie-doo for us. Like we are so noble about Iraq. Like we know anything over the past about the truth about what goes on Iraq. The U.S. administration, press and "mainstream" popular thought has been so wrong about everything else, so why should anyone care what we think about what happens to him?

12. Actually
We do hang people in the U.S.

It has only happened three times since 1976, but it has happened.

Personally I am against the death penalty in all cases.

16. This is a bogus poll taken by a group that specializes in....
..."advertising, customer loyalty, marketing, media, and public affairs research.

Our industry specialization model means we have an intimate understanding of your brands, your consumers and your marketplace."

Why are these people being asked to poll anyone about Saddam? Who was polled in the U. S., how many people were polled, and where do they live?

29. 9/11
I bet you that most Americans who were polled believe:

1. that Saddam was responsible for 9/11 and

2. that the trial is related to his role in 9/11.

It is ignorant polling and ignorant reporting if these wrong-headed beliefs were not also factored into the analysis.

23. Saddam
Saddam is an awful, awful man. The things he has done are not to be believed; he is a real ghoul. I don't know what all that means for his trial one way or the other--or his being deposed and captured--I'm not addressing that. When I read about the things he's done, it literally makes me sick to my stomach.

24. Did they poll a U.S. insane asylum?
"The polling also found that two-thirds of the people in the U.S. were convinced that Iraqis are better off now than they were under Saddam..."

I suppose if invasion, occupation, tens of thousands of deaths, civil war, rampant crime, no electricity, polluted water, etc. are your idea of "better off".
