White House says Iran statements provocative

NEW ORLEANS, March 8 (Reuters) - The White House rejected as provocative Iran's statement's that the United States could feel "harm and pain" if the U.N. Security Council took up the issue of Tehran's nuclear research.

"We've made it very clear that Iran must not be allowed to engage in any enrichment and processing activity within its own territories," White House spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters.

2. Idiots.
What did they expect when cheney made PROVOCATIVE remarks towards Iran?

This admin. continues to think they can say anything they want & their words will have no consequences.

Why doesn't bush just tell them to "Bring 'em on" and see if THAT scares them into submission?

7. So Cheney and Bolten's statements weren't "provocative?"
Give me a break. We go around threatening every nation we don't like and than can't take it when they answer back.

they deny making the statements but if they can't do that they find someone to blame for revealing they ever MADE the statements.

11. U.S. Ambassador Gregory Schulte told the board "the time has now come...
...for the council to act"... ..."(The council) should emphasize that Iran will face consequences" if it does not heed world appeals, Schulte added."

'face consequences'. hmmmm, now where have we heard that before? this blatant recycling of iraq war propaganda and diplomatic manouvering is sickening.

12. White House says "Ner ner *ner*,", Accuses Critics of Childishness

This sort of thing has happened so often I'm beginning to wonder if these people have some sort of brand new politically associated psychiatric disorder.

I think I'll call it Autistically Supported Super-Hypocrisy, Obfuscation, Lying and Evasion Syndrome.

14. The Ultimate in hypocrisy
Of course Iran is going to fire back with rhetoric. Would you honestly expect them to do anything else.

Does anyone notice that the tactic this administration is using is the same exact tactic used by a school yard bully. The school yard bully knows that it is not acceptable for him to just come up and hit you.

So he set up a straw man argument. He taunts you and calls you names until you react. And when you do react, he smacks you and says, did you hear what he just said to me.

Why can't people wake up and see this for what it is? Why doesn't the media point this out? And most importantly, why in gods name do the 'so called' leaders of this country act this way?

Anyone that has any maturity what-so-ever knows that this strategy will only cause heart ache.

17. it is amazing, beyond words.
nothing but total submission to the bully will do for Iran..and, of course that will not work for them either...they are still going to get smaked, because that is what the bully wants to do....and he will...it is beyond words and beyond belief....and yet, our country just keeps doing it. how dare they say.."if you hit me, i will hit back"...no that is not acceptable.

Hi there Mexicoxpat, all. Re. "bullying", If you have the bandwidth, here's a brief interview (thru interpreter, I get audio, almost no video with my bandwidth) by John Snow of the UK's independent Channel4 media with "Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani" (March 6th): http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/special-reports-storypage.jsp?id=1885

"We don't need a nuclear bomb, and we have announced as much time and time again." ...but, ..."There is no listening ear, so to speak."

Compare and contrast with Bolton, Shrub, talking heads, report here (all from March 6th): http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/special-reports-storypage.jsp?id=1880

For more from Channel4 (deployed this week in Iran) start here: http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/iran.html

Here's tonight's report (March 8th): http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/special-reports-storypage.jsp?id=1900 and: "Iran's President accuses the west of speaking with forked tongues and bullying over the nuclear crisis.": http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/special-reports-storypage.jsp?id=1901 (and taste the mindless evil "rhetorical" spin this British (to be kind, surely simply stupid, or merely mercenary) commentator is pleased to broadcast to her audience).

19. Isn't it odd how John O'Neil of the New York Times puts "harm" and "pain"
as quotations in his headline?

You couldn't craft an article more intended to escalate a conflict than Mr. O'Neil has put together. I assume he is paid well to do what he does.

And he actually misleads with the article, as his own quotation from the Iranians only indicates that they intend to meet force with equal force.

"The United States may have the power to cause harm and pain but it is also susceptible to harm and pain," Iran said in its statement. "So if the United States wishes to choose that path, let the ball roll."

what adjective describes their provocation of a growing number of the world's sovereign nations...some now former sovereign nations?
