Zimbabwe threatens to "eliminate" opponents
State Security Minister Didymus Mutasa made the warning on state television a day after the broadcaster said police had found weapons in the eastern city of Mutare and arrested a former member of the military in the white minority administration of what was once the British colony of Rhodesia.

President Robert Mugabe accuses the MDC of working with Western countries to try to oust him from power, mainly over his seizure of white-owned farms for redistribution to poor blacks.

On Wednesday, Nelson Chamisa, spokesman for one of two estranged MDC factions, said the party had no links with Hitschmann and slammed what he called attempts by the government to derail its congress set for next week.

"This morning, the police arrested Giles Mutsekwa ... and Brian James, the MDC‘s provincial treasurer for Manicaland. We see their arrest as a ploy by the regime to destabilize the forthcoming congress by implicating our officials in a case that concerns an employee of the state," Chamisa said.

1. Mugabe is almost crazy enough to
work for the bush administration in a senior position. Perhaps as Secretary of Agriculture, he could seize farms and redistribute them to disgraced lobbyists and former heads of Enron.

3. I know, and it was once a beautiful country
When I visited Mutare, I was stunned at how it was rimmed with beautiful blue mountains. And at how kind and friendly the people were.

Why aren't we concerned about this dictator who kills his own people? Prolly 'cuz even when Zimland was producing oil, it was corn oil, not petroleum.

Pray for Zimbabwe

4. You answered your own question: the continent of Africa
doesn't flow with oil... so "our" government ignores it... South Africa, Rhodesia then Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Zaire, etc.

a great place for blacks before Mugabe took office. It seems to me that the whites will do anything to discredit Mugabe.

12. Mugabe
discredited himself before he even took office, when he declared war on ZANU-PF's rival ZIPRA, another African Nationist Communist guerilla army.

And I don't need to meet him to know that seizing farms and then assigning one to his wife was wrong.

13. The "whites" didn't discredit Mugabe, he's discredited himself
Criticizing him makes no one a racist anymore that criticizing the Israeli government makes one anti-Semitic.

And, no one has said that living in Rhodesia was pleasant for blacks, It wasn't. It sucked hugely.

5. It's no surprise. Wars are like that
Every "warrior" dreams of eliminating his "opponents"..They then set out to find the most efficient way to do it, and try to avoid arrousing the sensitivities of outsiders who would criticize them..

Every war involves genocide to some degree.. Every innocent killed, whether by machete or M.O.A.B. is a future that was snuffed out...

6. Zimbabwe isn't at war
It's just a dictator eliminating the opposition. Your non-chalant attitude to the deaths of thousands of people is disturbing. I'm curious as to whether you'd feel differently if they weren't African.

I'm just sayin'...
