NEW YORK - The sister of a firefighter killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks said Wednesday she would sleep across from ground zero indefinitely to protest plans for the World Trade Center memorial.
"I will be here every night from this night forward until the underground memorial issue is resolved," Rosaleen Tallon said.
Construction on the "Reflecting Absence" memorial is scheduled to begin within weeks. Families have said the design dishonors the dead and is not safe for visitors because the memorial would be partially underground.
Tallon, whose brother, Sean, was killed at the trade center, and about a dozen other Sept. 11 family members asked the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. to change its plans.
