Ex-teacher takes 18 hostages in French school

A former teacher has taken 18 students, a teacher and another man hostage at a school in France, officials said.

The man, who is believed to be armed, is holding the hostages at a school in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, west France.

6. Here is the updated BBC report:
A former teacher has taken 18 students, a teacher and a teaching assistant hostage at a school in France.
The man, who is armed with a handgun, is holding the hostages at a school in Sable-sur-Sarthe, west of Paris.

The 33-year-old man has been out of work since losing his job at the school two years ago.

Officers are negotiating with the man who has barricaded himself and the hostages in a classroom at Colbert de Torcy high school.

The man has made no demands but reports suggested he was protesting at the difficulty of finding employment.

man said being psychologically unstable, former teacher in that school. 18 hostages 11-16 + adults.

this kind of guy is normally no match for the GIGN.
