LAT: (Prescription) Drug (from Canada) Seizure Data Disclosed
From the Los Angeles Times

Drug Seizure Data Disclosed

Thousands of prescription packages ordered largely by U.S. seniors from Canadian firms have been stopped since November, a lawmaker says.
By Lisa Girion
Times Staff Writer

March 9, 2006

About 13,000 packages of prescription drugs — most ordered by U.S. seniors from licensed Canadian pharmacies — have been held up by U.S. Customs and Border Protection since November, according to figures released Wednesday by a Florida senator.

The largest number of packages, more than 4,000, have been stopped at the international mail center near Los Angeles International Airport, according to statistics that the office of Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) said it had obtained from a customs administrator. Drugs also were seized at centers in Chicago, Miami and New York.

The customs office — which has refused to make a public accounting of the crackdown — said it could not confirm Nelson's numbers. The agency did say the seizures would continue, although some seniors have recently reported receiving overdue medications that had been held up by authorities.

The customs crackdown in effect reverses a long-standing policy of the Food and Drug Administration to allow individuals to receive medications for personal use from reputable Canadian pharmacies, even though it is illegal to order drugs from abroad.

1. I guess they want to kill off the seniors, unless they enrich US companies
that's pretty much it. Those poor folks, waiting on prescriptions THEY PAID FOR, and not receiving them or their money. Motherfucking bastard administration. They have destroyed the country.

2. Mine was stopped, and got a letter.
When I called the company in Canada a lady told me that they were getting lots of heat from the FDA. (Can't have Rummy's profits going to those Canadians.) On the phone with the FDA woman I asked her why, and she said something about the drug being unknown. I told her it was a valid perscription and I didn't have insurance and it was cheaper in Canada. (Whatever...you ain't gettin' it. I don't care if you die, you can't have nuttin' from Canada.)

5. Definitely call your senator and congress person
The FDA, like any federal agency, will do what Congress will tell it. And every politician knows, seniors vote more than college kids.

6. This worries me
My boyfriend gets his anti-depression meds from India. It's the only way we can afford it. If they stop his shipments, we are screwed.

7. I do the same thing. Two months ago I ordered a year's supply
What would cost me over $1200 in the US cost only $250 from India. I don't know when they'll start cracking down, but I'll make it through 06.

Peace
