Generic Republicans Best President on National Security
Republicans in Congress may have successfully distanced themselves from the President on the Dubai Ports issue.

Forty-three percent (43%) of Americans say they generally trust Republicans more than Democrats on national security issues while 38% place more trust in the Democrats. That five point advantage for generic Republicans is fairly modest, but is better than the numbers the President has mustered.

A separate survey found that 41% of Americans trust Democrats in Congress more than the President on national security issues. Forty percent (40%) have more trust in the President.

Interest in the story remains very high. Seventy-two percent (72%) of Americans say they have been following news about the Dubai Ports deal somewhat or very closely.

1. If they trust Dems more than the White House, then they have to
give us the benefit of the doubt in Congress. Otherwise the chances that the Republicans are going to buck the White House's authority are slim. This ports thing is the exception, not the rule.

3. It doesn't work that way if the GOP in Congress
pretty much seperates itself from Bush.

The GOP in Congress if anything was helped by this showing they care more about national security then Bush.

This whole thing has been a farce.

4. I honestly don't believe people will fall for it this time.
There is too much anger on their side, coupled with the fact that this isn't a national campaign, it's a local one, and local media isn't as slanted as the national media is.

They're in trouble.

6. Who are they?
Bush and Congress are two seperate entities and the public sees them as much.

The dems started with this issue and the GOP in Congress stole the issue from them and used it a a crudgle to bash the president.

7. They = Congressional Republicans
When it comes down to the state and local campaigns, I don't think the national media is going to be able to dominate the debate.

And no, actually, the GOP started this issue and the Dems piled on.

Freeper racist asshats were up in arms the second it got reported. The Dems took a day or two to get it.

10. Presidential Weakness = Party Weakness
Clinton got smacked around his first term too, at times by his own party (if it wasn't for Democrats, we would have had some kind of National Healthcare). Yet we still lost the House in 1994.

Don't get me wrong the GOP congresscritters will pay in coming elections. But, they will pay because of their own decisions far more then anything Bush does.

11. Since they are generally conditioned to think so,
That's not surprising. Lots of people seem very easily lead, lately.

14. We need to do our level best to hang this around the necks of
the ENTIRE Republican Party.
We can indroduce legislation to address the host of issues brought up by the 9/11 commission, complain daily about bin Laden not being caught, fight the nuclear deal with India, and mka the point that war hurts our security (more war = less security).
