Chicago Requires Driver's Ed for the Blind

But 16-year-old Mayra Ramirez is indifferent about it.

Ramirez is blind, yet she and dozens of other visually impaired sophomores in Chicago schools are required to pass a written rules-of-the-road exam in order to graduate — a rule they say takes time away from subjects they might actually use.

"In other classes, you don't really feel different because you can do the work other people do," Ramirez said. "But in driver's ed, it does give us the feeling we're different. In a way, it brought me down, because it reminds me of something I can't do."

Anything that gets in the way of schools making more money is bad, isn't it? Don't schools get paid by governments for the number of hours kids spend in classroom seats?

Therefore, shouldn't curriculm be extended for as long as possible to maximize every schools' potential income from each and every pupil?

Shouldn't real, income producing knowledge be delayed until the very latter years of college?

7. schools may get paid by student attendance

let them take something that will actually be useful, unless IL. allows the blind to drive. Let them take an elective like teachers aid, or PE instead of drivers ed. Let them take something that the law does not prohibit them from actually doing.
