Protesters interrupt Clinton visit

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ An appearance by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton at a jobs conference in Albany was briefly disrupted Friday by one of her two anti-war opponents for the Democratic Senate nomination.

As more than 200 Albany-area business executives listened to a panel discussion at the State University at Albany, Steve Greenfield rose from the audience and shouted "When are our troops coming home from Iraq?"

The former first lady sitting with the panel said, "We'll discuss it later. We're going to move on."

...

Outside the room, Greenfield complained about the "cozy relationship between the government and the private war-profiteering sector."

12. Hillary Clinton was anti-war during VietNam -68 - election
I have gone from a Barry Goldwater Republican to a New Democrat, but I think my underlying values have remained pretty constant; individual responsibility and community. I do not see those as being mutually inconsistent.

FROM A REVIEW OF HER BOOK:

After three years in Park Ridge’s "Maine Township East High," Hillary was redistricted into newly-built Maine South High, for her 1964-65 senior year. During that year her combination of socially-conscious youth activities at First United Methodist Church, earning A’s in a high quality academic program, and the plethora of extra-curricular activities reported here must have produced a weekly schedule as tight as a political campaigner’s. But in the fall of 1964 she also found time to go door-to-door for Barry Goldwater—the last Republican Presidential contender she was to support (in 1968 she followed first Eugene McCarthy and then Hubert Humphrey).

FROM AN INTERVIEW ON TODAY

“You graduated from Wellesley in 1969. You were the first student commencement speaker.”

FROM ANOTHER BOOK REVIEW

At Wellesley, Hillary Clinton was president of the Young Republicans. It was Vietnam that fomented the first challenge to her politics, and the GOP's rightward drift that helped push her into the Democratic Party. "I didn't leave the Republican Party as much as it left me."

3. He won't be the last to complain about people making money off of war.
"A few profit – and the many pay. But there is a way to stop it. You can't end it by disarmament conferences. You can't eliminate it by peace parleys at Geneva. Well-meaning but impractical groups can't wipe it out by resolutions. It can be smashed effectively only by taking the profit out of war."

4. Why are they not so pushy with Republicans???
Edited on Fri Mar-10-06 04:26 PM by Julius Civitatus
OK, this is starting to piss me off.

Twice this week we had left-of-center protesters heckling speeches by both Clintons in order to protest the war in Iraq. Some idiots even called Bill Clinton a "war criminal" earlier this week because of the Iraq war. And yes, Hillary supported the invasion effort, which is fucked up, but... WTF???
:wtf:

BUSH, CHENEY AND THE REPUBLICAN NEOCONS DID START THIS WAR. They really, really wanted this war and they couldn't' stop until they got it. Nobody would get in their way of getting their precious war without playing the consequences (Plame). But apparently when it's time to mobilize the base, the base turns against the Clintons?

So why chasing the Clintons around? How about every bastard neocon which seems to be making ever more money off conferences and speeches all over the place? What is it? Too afraid to go after the big fish? Are they afraid to be arrested at any neocon speech, so they try disrupting the more open, more tolerant Clinton speeches?

Why I don't see that in the media? It doesn't make sense to me.

5. It's much more difficult to get to Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney than to Hillary
Bush et al. have the benefit of the Secret Service as well the resources of the federal government, and the Republican apparatchiks carefully screen people of potential protesters and dissidents who won't toe the line.

7. I think part of it is
that we feel more betrayed by dems who aren't speaking out more about what a disaster this war is. However, I see protesters fairly frequently pop up in protest at repub speaking engagements. Remember the students at GT who turned their backs on abu gonza?

17. But Bill Clinton is a war criminal. Sanctions killed hundreds of thousand
Bill's Secretary of State said the killing of so many was "worth it". Bill Clinton also started bombing Iraq before Bushie took office.

This kind of denial will get us nowhere. We must deal with history, not wishful thinking. To say that Bill Clinton did these things is not to deny the very real crimes of the Bush Sr or Bush Jr administrations.

To think that we have to say that Clinton was a good man to make the case against Bush jr is so illogical it belongs on some freeper website. In fact, they attempt to make a similar case:
Saddam war criminal.
Therefore Bush is good, because he attacked Saddam (of course, sometimes leaving out that so many are dying and suffering as a result, and the end result for average Iraqis is that they are worse off than before).

Your argument
Bush is bad.
Therefore, Clinton is good (of course, sometimes leaving out that so many are died as a result of his policies).

This really needs to be said. Bravo!!!

Of course, Bill Clinton is a war criminal.

Duh.

As a lifelong Dem, I really had a problem with Clinton's policies (not his penis). I was excited and voted for him in 1992, then watched as over about 3 weeks after taking office, he systemtically went back on every promise he had made. I voted Nader in 1996.

My god, he ended the federal guarantee of welfare. Which was something Reagan longed to do, but couldn't. Clinton did it.

Let's not rewrite history. Bush is horrifically bad, but Clinton was no prize either.

24. Protestors never get near Shrub & Co.
He never appears anywhere unless he can get a loyalty oath from every audience member that's verified.

Unless you're one of "the annointed" you don't get closer than a half mile of him.

New Yorkers expected more from Hillary. I'm not surprised she's being targeted by some of the people who had the highest hopes for her. They feel let down.

8. How much is Rove paying nowadays???
I find the Hillary bashing to be mostly Rovian tactics. You know.. I'm kinda getting used to living under republican rule. I'm starting to enjoy it.. really.. and I won't be pissed AT ALL when these people who call themselves liberals trash every candidate we have that doesn't suit their personal needs OR the ones that are Rove operatives. :sarcasm:

10. That's right!
It's not that Hillary hasn't been a good ally to the anti-war movement, or that someone who's planning to run against her on a true anti-war platform might do well to point this out at every opportunity, it's all about Rove. :sarcasm:

26. It doesn't have to be a Republican or a War Democrat.
We don't have to settle for a candidate who will never be progressive or for peace.

If Hillary is elected as a hawk, she'll stay a hawk forever.

And the Democrats won't elect another president for years afterwards, since War Democrats always turn the country against the party.

is necessary.

Just like when King was out organizing for civil rights, the Right-wing just brought up that some of his associates were not devoted to the Capitalist system. That had nothing to do with the pros or cons of civil rights, but it helped distract a few simpletons.
Edited for clarity.
