McGraw, Hill Blast Katrina Cleanup Efforts

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tim McGraw and Faith Hill met with reporters to talk about their upcoming tour, but ended up venting their frustration with the cleanup efforts along the Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Hill, who grew up in Jackson, Miss., and McGraw, a native of Delhi, La., have spent time in the devastated areas helping with relief efforts and raising money for victims.

When asked by reporters during Wednesday's round table about the government's slow progress, Hill, 38, said, "It's wrong. It's embarrassing. It really gets us fired up. That's our homeland."

....criticized President Bush, who visited the devastated Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans on Wednesday.

"There's no reason why someone can't go down there - who's supposed to be the leader of the free world - and say, 'I'm giving you a job to do and I'm not leaving here until it's done. And you're held accountable,'" he said.

When asked what their fans could do to help, McGraw said: "Vote."

3. On Scarborough last night there was an obnoxious republican

strategist, Jack Butthead, or something like that, who had the gall to say that if McGraw was that inarticulate then he must be a 9th grade dropout and could certainly never hold a public office. This was after Joe stumbled through the reading of McGraw's quote and inverted words in a dyslexic manner. But to have a bush apologist suggest that someone was not articulate enough to hold public office was, to borrow a word from Faith Hill, BULLSHIT! A reporter from Tennessee mentioned that McGraw had previously mentioned that he might run for office someday.

That same republican spokesperson referred to them as dumb hillbillies. Apparently anyone living down in our part of the country falls under the description of dumb hillbilly. Because geographically I don't think Jackson, Ms or Louisiana are really home to hillbillies. I'm nitpicking here, but I thought it was interesting that this guy was so quick to throw that label at anyone from the south that dared disagree with bush. This same guy has been on shows defending the Dubai ports takeover, so I guess that's how he feels about all the southern redstaters that have a problem with that issue, too.
