Kerry Visits Harvard Amid Some Protests
Senator appears at IOP premiere of documentary; meets with Dems

Anti-war protesters amassed at the Kennedy School of Government on Friday, when 2004 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass) spoke with former Senator Max Cleland and a group of veterans to a packed John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum.

While Kerry came to Harvard for the premiere of “Hidden Wounds,” a documentary on veterans of the war in Iraq suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the event took a political turn as several dozen protesters gathered together at 79 JFK Street.

“Bush Lied. Kerry Complied. Bring the troops home now,” they chanted outside the Kennedy School.

The protest was sponsored by the organizations Not One More (NOM) and Military Families Speak Out (MFSO) as part of their continued effort to provoke a withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.

Bush was going to war. If the IWR would have failed - there would have been something (an incident in the no fly zone? something). As CIC Bush would have attacked, probably 4 months earlier. He had already placed troops in the area. From the DSM, the US and UK were committed. If the IWR (as written) was followed war could have been averted. From this weeks NYT it's clear Saddam was in danger of losing power before we attacked.

Also, not - even the guy who heckled Kerry called on him to help.

The slogan is lame - I guess they had no better rhyme - but what does comply mean. (Bush lied and did not comply with the resolution. Usually you comply with a law - which I'm sure the Senator does.

The man was taken out of the forum, but his message did not fall on deaf ears.

At the event, Kerry introduced a new funding push he is making in Congress to allocate $100 million to Veteran Centers for the screening and treatment of PTSD.

Cleland, who lost both legs and half an arm in 1968 when he was serving in the Vietnam War, took the stage with Kerry before the screening.

Cleland said that while he dealt with the physical wounds, for a long time, he was unaware of the ?hidden wounds? of PTSD. He said that he was now in the kind of counseling which he should have sought out ?ages ago? and stressed that PTSD is a legitimate diagnosis.

4. In all fairness to Kerry he is not alone in the "complied" category.

Some Lieberman, Biden complied more than others. At least Kerry made Bush sweat and revert to fraud dirty tricks to win the election. If Kerry is guilty of anything it is to complying with the U.S Constitution.

The Constitution gives Congress--and only Congress--the power to declare war. It doesn't give the Preseident that power, it doesn't give Congress the right to cede that power to the President. Anyone with even a passing interest in defending the Constitution would've voted against the IWR.

Which is why I didn't support Kerry (or anyone else who voted for the IWR) in the caucuses, and wasn't happy about voting for him in the general. I hope the DLC lets us nominate someone who knows the Constitution this time.

to question the wisdom of even our own party. They work for us, its not our job to be their loyal followers it's our job to be the boss. Most of our representatives got it wrong on this one and they need to hear that from us.

not to say he won't keep trying. He was part and parcel of taking us to war, I guess it's fitting he acknowledge the pain and waste he helped provoke by viewing the wounds to US personnel. Now let's see him attend documentaries about the suffering of Iraqis. I predict it won't happen.

Personally, Bush didn't fool me.

Collin Powell fooled me.

In fact, I was fooled from the time Powell addressed The United Nations until the day I saw people looting the un-guarded art museums and military sites.

Still, I'm glad people are holding Kerry's feet to the fire. It will keep allof them on their toes.
