Dog Handler at Abu Ghraib on Trial
Dog Handler at Abu Ghraib on Trial
Witness Testifies Army Dog Handlers at Abu Ghraib Made Game of Scaring Prisoners

By DAVID DISHNEAU

FORT MEADE, Md. Mar 14, 2006 (AP)— An Army dog handler charged with abusing Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib said he was competing with another canine team to frighten detainees into soiling themselves, another soldier testified at the man's court-martial Tuesday.

The testimony on the second day of the trial was the most damaging evidence the government has presented against Sgt. Michael J. Smith.

Sgt. John H. Ketzer, who worked as an interrogator at the prison, testified that he followed the sounds of screaming to a cell where Smith's black Belgian shepherd was straining against its leash and barking at two cowering teenagers in a part of the prison reserved for juveniles and women.

Ketzer said Smith laughed as he told Ketzer shortly thereafter, "My buddy and I are having a contest to see if we can get them to (defecate on) themselves because we've already had some (urinate on) themselves."

5. You really think so?
They are posted on every thread here involving the military. It would be like getting a picture of a black guy raping a white woman and posting it every time race was a topic here.

Not exactly a hotbed of troop support at DU.

7. If supporting the troops means ignoring ass rape of POW's, count me out.
The actions at Abu Ghraib cannot be ignored. They were following orders from the highest levels.

11. No they are not posted in every thread involving the military
This is a story about abuse at Abu Ghraib, therefore it is appropriate to post pictures of the abuse at Abu Ghraib. If we don't face reality these problems will only get worse, especially if the top leadership like Rummie and Gen Miller are never held accountable.

8. It's the dog's fault! ... well, actually...
it was only following orders. So, was this Ketzer guy following orders?
Let's go up the chain of command and see who gave the order.

Oh, and bust Ketzer for not having more humanity than the fucking dog!

9. Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed Admitted to Violating Geneva Convention

Rumsfailed admitted in public on TV that when CIA Director Tenet requested that an Iraqi prisoner be sent to a secret Afghan/US Prison that Rumsfailed did so. After four months a DOD Attorney stated that this was an illegal act. Rumsfailed then ordered that this prisoner be sent back to Abu Graihib but the prisoner was purposefully not listed at that location, also an illegal act. Rumsfeld also admitted to signing orders for tougher interogation methods which violated the Geneva Conventions.

Rumfailed has commited at least three violations of the Geneva Convention thereby also violations of The Constitution of the USA. Recently it has been found out that even more detainees were "ghost detainees". The fact that Rumsfailed and Tenet have not been charged speaks volumes. If Congress wishes to garner any respect they should move forward with Rep. Rangle's Impeachment Declaration of Rumsfailed and also prosecute Ex. CIA Tenet.

The US, Govt., Congress, and the Justice Dept no longer abide by the Geneva Convention or the Constitution of the USA.

Harsh methods came with more liberal instructions at Abu Ghraib

By DAVID DISHNEAU
Associated Press

FORT MEADE, Md. (AP) -- As the Iraqi insurgency grew in the fall of 2003, the Army loosened its reins on a special team of interrogators at Abu Ghraib prison, where some high-value detainees were being held, a witness at a court-martial said.

Steven J. Pescatore, who worked for contractor CACI International Inc., said he and at least six other civilian and military interrogators were given more liberal instructions on the use of harsh techniques, including dogs.

Pescatore, testifying for the prosecution Tuesday at an Army dog handler's abuse trial, said the instructions came from Col. Thomas M. Pappas, then commander of military intelligence at the prison. The interrogators were told in a meeting that while they still had to write memos seeking permission to lean harder on a subject, they could assume that such requests would be approved, Pescatore said.

"What does that mean, you could assume?" asked the trial judge, Marine Lt. Col. Paul H. McConnell. "If you didn't hear anything back, silence was consent?"

Smith had his dog lick peanut butter off the genitals of a male soldier and the breasts of a female soldier while another sergeant videotaped the act.

13. I'm surprised it's not just the dog on trial. The point is they are not
going after the ones who ordered the torture...Rumsfeld, et.al.
