Airport cop opens fire on cab driver

Arlington (AP) - There was gunfire on the George Washington Parkway Tuesday afternoon after a cabbie allegedly blew past traffic that was stopped for a police matter.

Scott Fear of the U.S. Park Police says it happened around 2 p.m. outside Reagan National Airport (website - news) . According to Fear, a Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority cop pulled over a driver for unknown reasons. In doing so, the northbound lanes of the GW Parkway were blocked.

But Fear says a taxi went around the stopped cars. The airport cop opened fire as the cab approached.

Fear says they don't believe anyone was hit. The taxi - belonging to Empire Cab - drove off, and police are trying to find the driver.

1. Hope they catch him
Sounds like the cabbie tried to run over the cop wit his car and the officer responded appropriately.

yes, cabbies always try to run over cops. Happens every day.

Wow. Call someone call the physics lab at Berkeley, we've found the extra dimensions they were looking for. . . .

Seriously dude, that's a weird thing to say.

12. Many cab drivers are that way
But should the people he's taxi-ing get involved in a shoot out for his bad decisions? That's like saying you hope US soldiers die because of bush's war...

and regardless if he had anyone in his cab at the time, if they shoot at them, it means the next trigger happy cop may go after someone with people on board. Children even.

Sad sad country we live in...

Old Ronnie would be proud - law enforcement gunning down poor people and all. (He was probably a "dark" person too!) :sarcasm:

6. so cops now shoot to kill if your impatient and are in a hurry
and can't stand any more cops road blocks. If I were a cabbie and once I was I might have also drove past him
what if he had a fare, your parents and they were killed? would you still agree the cop did the right thing?
I don't agree with the forceful attitudes being displayed these days by cops. Case in point, out west recently cops shot someone who was told to lie down or get up and when that citizen obliged that cop he was shot. Remember the incident? If so, give me more info please.

7. Yes, I hope they catch that cop
who apparently fired for no good reason.

As always, there may be more to the story. I'm sure the cop will say the magic words: "I felt my life was threatened."

10. How do you distinguish an impromptu road block from a traffic jam?
Most cabbies drive around traffic jams.

11. As a Cabbie I can relate to this story. I was rushed by two crazy
Homeland Security/Renta cops helping a little old lady across the drive with her luggage. The mistake I made was leaving the cab. These guards at the airports are the new NAZIS. I spotted them rushing at me and quickly handed out the luggage and said fine, you carry the stuff in.
We run into this stupidity every week. If we park curb side they ticket us at the Grand Rapids airport. We have to drop passengers off in the commercial lane. A word to the wise, watch your step at US airports.
